Smartphone/Camera Hybrid Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Leaks Onto the Web
Oh, Samsung, you of myriad form factors and zany ideas. We have a feeling that the company will get its own large display in a computer museum someday dedicated to all the mobile devices it’s been cranking out lately, from giant phablets to stylus-equipped tablets to an Android camera. The latest is a combination smartphone and camera called the SamsungGalaxy S4 Zoom.
There are a few photos of the device leaking out onto the web, and they show what pretty much looks like a phone with a camera glued to the back. If you’re hoping for a great smartphone with just a better than average camera, you’ll probably be disappointed by the girth of the Galaxy S4 Zoom, but if you’re in the market for an actual camera--a 16MP deal with an optical zoom lens and what looks like may be a manual focus (or depth of field?) ring--with a phone strapped to the back, you’re in luck.

Sources have the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom’s specs pegged as a 4.3-inch qHD display, a 1.6GHz processor, 8GB of onboard storage (with microSD capacity of 64GB), WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 LE, A-GPS, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX.

There’s a large shutter button, and the volume rockers on the side may double as zoom in/out controls.
What do you think: Is this a terrific idea on Samsung’s part, or is this a case of a company trying to do two things at once and failing at both (a lack of hands-on and benchmark testing notwithstanding)?
