Hey AMD! Sorry to hear about your health troubles. It sounds like arrhythmia, but I hope it's nothing serious. At these times the best thing you can do is maintain a positive attitude and keep laughing...around 12 laughs a day should suffice. Reading ClemSnide's or 3vi1's posts should do the trick, lol. Those two are a riot! Hope to see you back in good health and good spirits soon!

For everyone who wants to know at least somewhat where technology is going check this out some good predictions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL72UV7XuFY !

rapid1 4 years ago

I wonder why my link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL72UV7XuFY

does not show as a clickable, as most Youtube links I see on here do?

nelsoncp21 4 years ago

did you copy and paste it or insert hyperlink?

Inspector 4 years ago

Rapid you need to paste the link then highlight it and click the chain thing and paste the link again to hyperlink it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL72UV7XuFY

Welcome chris :D

rapid1 4 years ago

Thanks it was a straight hyperlink copied as a hyperlink so i thought it would just direct paste I told it to grab it as a link. Either way it's there now and clickable now. I saw the commercial on the Super Bowl but the full Brett Favre at 50 talking about computerized refs and pre-season games on the moon GPS balls etc is hilarious!

I currently have an AMD Phenom II X4 system, this would be a nice upgrade! Good Luck to everyone.

Boodrow 4 years ago

The Sept issue of Maximum PC has an article hoe to build a dream machine for $690. dirt cheap and able to run the latest games!

sp12 4 years ago

Interesting decision to not overclock the 920, though I guess the reality is that it's safer to let the winner do that.

rapid1 4 years ago

There are issues with factory over clocking which at least as I would imagine bind the producing organization more on the warranty front. So this is probably smart, especially if you look at it like that. When the user OC's a PC rather than the distributor it in many cases void's all implied warranties. In that outlook this is very smart by the producer of said platform or equipment.

Yes as we know a I7 920 is very ripe as well as capable as an over clocked chip, and would therefore be able to do it as set up with ease. This leaving it unwarranted by not over clocking it from the factory to the consumer gives the company financially a lot more leeway from liabilities. This is also very true because you know a large number of user's attracted to this specific system will do it as well.

Nethersprite 4 years ago

Although I agree with your reasoning, I too wonder why they didn't take the risk; after all, the 920 is the "slowest" i7 processor. Then again, 1366 is a "future certified" board, with triple channel RAM and i9 compatibility. The winner of this system will likely put in an i9 when it comes out, and put in another 5870 when prices go down. Come to think of it, if I had the money to build an 1366 system, these are pretty much the same specs I would put together too, except maybe change the SSD to a 10K Raptor?

Khellendross 4 years ago

Looks beautiful. Here's to HH!

Hoping to do some upgrading of my system here soon.

Inspector 4 years ago

Welcome Khellendross!

where is everyone today? No one posting :(

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey Inspector I have posted in HH today, just not on this one yet. Welcome Khellendross; as well, it is always nice to see new members, the more we have the better discussions work. I have not seen if we have any other new members yet, but welcome if we do. Either way; the contest ends Sunday, and someone will be the belated recipient of this awesome system.

Marius Malek 4 years ago

Those pictures are addicting to look at. Sunday is when the contest ends? Let's hope I don't lose sleep over it.

Khellendross 4 years ago

ty for the welcome. usually ye become a new member on forums like these and ye barely get noticed.

Inspector 4 years ago

If you introduce your self in a sweepstakes thread your 99% likely to get noticed xD any where else you get a 50% chance :P lol, GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

ALSO Third to say

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER!! :P

By the way today was the first time i saw hothardware on somehting besides a computer screen xD it was on a western digital caviar black 1tb box at best buy :P lol

a750gixr 4 years ago

This would be nice to have, I would trade winning that for the new intel 6 core processor, and 2 new ATI video cards for crossfire! It would still be nice to have this rig.

Inspector 4 years ago

Welcome Larry and A750! Only 2 More days to announcement! im losing sleep right now O.o lol

realneil 4 years ago

This is when things start to get a little crazy on the forums.

sp12 4 years ago

Interestingly, I was looking at specs for a theoretical new system (but for when prices drop.... a lot), and these are the exact: MB, Ram, CPU, video card, and SSD I was looking at.

Inspector 4 years ago

Welcome sp12!

There's just one more day... TODAY! till winner is announced tomorrow! :)

rapid1 4 years ago

very nice looking rig! they just keep coming, that would look great in conjunction with my new 28" lcd....

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey HH is always got something brewing. Plus a lot of valid discussion of components technologies etc. Not to mention the added bonus of the contests around here. Did you new guys see what gibbersome just won a couple of weeks back? Either way I'd definitely nominate HH as one of the best on the web period, for all of it's differing qualities, I find no matches especially in a complete picture.

acarzt 4 years ago

bighorse 4 years ago

Here we go again. Time for another exciting battle for a beautiful system. The SSD alone looks so tempting to have, and the rest of the system is just wonderful, good combination of hardware. Cyberpower put together a nice system!

transam02 4 years ago

Very nice guys, Hopefully since work has slowed down I can be involved for this one.  Good luck everyone and thanks HH for another fantastic contest.

3vi1 4 years ago

This would be a great solution to my kids arguing about who's turn it is on their computer. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

jujdred 4 years ago

Sigh!.  Wish I could afford something even HALF as decent as this.  I'm still using a hand me down AMD socket 939 rig with a single core Athlon 64 4000+ and 2 gigs of ram.  And as luck would have it, it got phased out several months back and parts have shot through the roof, if you can find them at all.

Now I'm torn between i5 or Phenom II X4 and blasted Athlon II X4.

Been so satisfied with my old rig I never paid any attention to the cpu wars much.  And now i regret it.

Anyone care to help a fella out and throw together a super budget 'game' rig for $500?  Priorities are future proofing upgradability, so cpu, mobo, vga, and memory are main focus.  Everything else can be ignored so that should help.  HDD/ case, psu, etc can trickle in later.

Oh, I'm new here too so hi everyone.

Jujdred

gibbersome 4 years ago

Sure, make a new post in the forums and I'll have something for you by tonight! :)

jujdred 4 years ago

rapid1 4 years ago

I can help you out jujdred building a system to that price line should work. You already have a case and monitor which drops 3-400 from the retail price anyway.

peti1212 4 years ago

Inspector 4 years ago

Nice :D (Hope i get lucky this time Wink)

Also i logged in to cyberpower's face book fan page and they have pics of the GREAT rig up! :D

rapid1 4 years ago

Nice components pic's. This layout looks very nice, and one of the big things to me as you may have gathered from other posts is the 1366 chip socket along with the included features on the board. Tri-channel memory future compatibility etc.

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey Judjdred I put together a system for you for 516 and posted it to your special post. There are some options to drop the price as well.

jujdred 4 years ago

thanks.

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey jujdred did you see my build I sent you.

RA1D 4 years ago

Showing the love, haha!  HH gives back to the community more than any other site on the web.  Good luck to all, that's a bad ass system!

weeeetina 4 years ago

I'm with jujdred with needing a new system but needing it fairly cheap, but I at least have a dual core on my 5+ year old machine that I bought from Cyberpower. I guess he could use a new computer more than me, but I still would like that one up there. Oh and I'm new too so hello all and good luck!

Inspector 4 years ago

Welcome weeee :D , i hope you enjoy your stay with HH and who doesn't need a new rig Wink

jazluvr 4 years ago

That is a sweet system. I was going to buy the 5850, but my mobo can't run it, and i can't afford an upgrade. I never won any contests, or even the lottery, lol. I don't expect to win this, but some lucky winner is sure to love this gaming beast. Nice and future proof. Good luck to everyone.

ddayjason 4 years ago

same here. never won lottery prize beyond two dollars.

rapid1 4 years ago

lol ddayjason I know the feeling although I actually won 6 dollars once. As far as it goes I have been trying to win on here for 2 years now, with no luck. I have seen many win though new and old members. So everyone has a good chance it is! I hope to win as I could use it, I love the components top to bottom, and it offers quite a good upgrade outlook over time not to mention the standing capabilities and build of it as is.

smulla 4 years ago

I never win and if you don't win don't feel so bad because CP rigs do come with some problems I'm a member on that board.  It would be nice to test out the 5870 it is a very sweet card and who wouldn't want to win a system like this.

recoveringknowitall 4 years ago

Another incredible system that I won't win... oh well. lol

I ain't hatin though so good luck to all!

bighorse 4 years ago

Whoever wins this machine can try to get it OCed enough to take on the monster Gibbersome just won. Be fun to try to catch that machine.

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey Bighorse if I win I promise you I will do an OC contest with gibber lol. We will both be cooled close to the same I think this one has a Liquid cool setup to I think. Well this system has a very highly rated air setup now that I looked, I will grab a liquid cooling setup myself then maybe. have wanted to go to liquid for a while anyway.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

Oh man. This one beats my homebrew system hands down. If I win this one, the DIY rig will go up on Craigslist in a New York minute, to pay for home repairs (including replumbing my basement after a burglar stole all the copper pipes).

I have to wonder, though-- the focus on the forumites here is gaming, so are we all giving up our chances at the Thermaltake pink nettops to enter this one?

Frankly, I wouldn't throw either one out of bed for eating crackers. And I renew my promise: If I win one of the Thermaltake Valentines Specials, and I'm partial to the one with the pink barcode, I promise to install one of those Unix knockoffs onto it, to join in the burgeoning L4P movement.

But if anyone's counting, I'd prefer this one. For one thing, there's no implication that you have to give it to a Significant Other. "All for Pagus! All for me! Ha, ha, ha!"

nelsoncp21 4 years ago

And they do it again! And for the next magic trick by Dave and Marco they will give away an LCD the size of the 1 in Texas stadiumSurprise. Yeah, I bet the new members and post would jump through the roof for that one.

Seriously though guys another great system and giveaway. This isn't the first system donated  by cyberpower either is it? I wouldn't mind tradin up for the GPU and PSU you guys are givin away. But I think I have won enough great stuff and will let some others have a go.

Inspector 4 years ago

Im so in! :D, been waiting hours to reply to this -.-. You guys should get that forum posting added to the iphone app soon :D, the web browser version does not work :(

Good Luck to ALL!

Kyouya 4 years ago

Hey, what gives? What happen to Canadians participating in this contest? They used to let Canada be part of something like this...

Dave_HH 4 years ago

It depends on the manufacturer, Kyouya, sorry. In this case shipping to Canada just isn't feasible from a cost standpoint.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

Dave, maybe our Canadian friends could get in on it if they agree to pay shipping? I'm pretty sure that $30 and a day off from work to wait for UPS would be a small price to pay for winning something nifty.

Inspector 4 years ago

LOL what are you going to tell your boss? "I won a $2000 gaming rig and decided to stay home and wait for it" Smile lol.

transam02 4 years ago

Hey, longtime reader at HH, almost half a year now, and I'm pretty sure I've learned more about computers from these guys than I did in my past 2 semesters at college. If HH weren't here I'd be so lost on the hardware frontier I'd probably still be trying to get an 8800 thinking it was "leading edge". lol Great work on the site guys, love it! and love the awesome sweepstakes too, whoever wins will be one happy camper :D

rapid1 4 years ago

I am very happy it's a 1366 unit to the upgrade ability on them seems to be much wider than any other path hardware wise.

rapid1 4 years ago

Oh and by the way welcome Tobi always nice to have new users around here. The more we have the more opinions there are as well as the larger amount of outlook on different components issues.

rapid1 4 years ago

I love this one plus the price on a I7 920 1366 chip socket setup is what I wish I could have. I wish I had one, but could not afford it. So I will hope to win one, and this one is sweet all the way around.

Bighorse 4 years ago

Welcome all the new friends we have here. This system being a LGA1366 will allow this machine plenty of room to upgrade.

Its been a few days since I had to chance to post since it was valentine's week. Had to make sure the plans for the wife worked out so I avoid that dog house. But I guess that dog house would be really nice with this machine in it.

Hey Cheezit welcome to HH

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah I know the point in not having enough time as I am starting Bachelors level studies my workload is jumping significantly. I think I am gonna change schools to so that I can get the hope Grant to, on top of the Pell. I have no one helping me pay for my schooling so the deeper I dig the harder it is to get out. Either way this system would be very awesome to have for doing school work (the faster it operates the more I get done in the lowest amount of time), plus when I get a break this puppy will game with some of the best, especially after I OC it.

Inspector 4 years ago

amen brother :D lol

Marius Malek 4 years ago

I won't lie, before this promotion deal I've never heard to Hot Hardware, but I'm very excited about this contest and I wish everyone the best of luck. I have many forums that I jump to, and I'll try not to neglect this oppurtunity.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

No worries! That's how I got started. A blind friend wanted a portable HD, so I searched for an affordable 2.5" HD of about 80 GB (we had calculated that that was all the music he was likely to own). Voila, out pops a HotHardware contest! So I entered, and won, and Kevin is as pleased as a pig in mud with his new music storage device (I added a case).

But having done so, I found that the stories are often interesting (I don't read them all but many pique my interest), they're uniformly well-written, and the user community here is the friendliest I've found on the Net. Many times in forums (especially those with anonymous, or pseudonymous, posting; no, Clem Snide is not my real name!) you get people who are quick to criticize or find fault; but here people respect others' opinions and help out. Check the Tech Support forum if you don't believe me. We enjoy new toys and we enjoy looking at (and talking about) them, even if we didn't buy them, such as those $5000 PCIe slot SSDs.

So welcome! You came here for the contest, but you'll stay because of the content!

rapid1 4 years ago

Lol Marius if you notice a most sites cover the general same hardware. HH in general though adds a good bit to that common model, and while covering the general stuff, also adds a lot of there own. Plus the member base is generally knowledgeable all the way around. Therefore discussion is quite live if you get my drift, and if help is needed on anything it is always pretty close at hand. That is also not to mention the staff is very knowledgeable in general as well as in many specialized and directly related ways as well.

rapid1 4 years ago

Aight HH show me the love!

travisz 4 years ago

Now off to see if there's a section on Home Entertainment Media Players like the Western Digital Live and such

Inspector 4 years ago

:D welcome travis and dennis

I would like to say welcome to all the new people. This build is a very sweet combination. Be awesome to win this thing before our next LAN party. I would dominate everyone with the performance this thing will shell out.

melissaaggie98 4 years ago

What an awesome giveaway! I'd flip my lid if I won this!

rapid1 4 years ago

Oh and Melissa as for blowing your lid I think about anyone would this is an awesome system with room to grow I think holding the board and components it does.

Inspector 4 years ago

no kidding i'll blast my lid O.o lol

rapid1 4 years ago

Hello and welcome all our new members for today. Of course I love the contests because one day I might win, but they bring new members to, and a lot of them stick around. Either way all new people as many others point out this is a cool group of people, and the flame war stuff does not exist here. If you need help or wanna know something just ask. Someone will help you with whatever you need or want to know or even want a suggestion on.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

Hey, since it's causing such a stir, why not throw in the hoochie mouse with this rig?

rapid1 4 years ago

Rofl the Hoochie mouse and a DD mouse pad to ha.

chris3456948 4 years ago

i have been reading hothardware for about 2 years now i remember when they started the pc giveaways but i figured i would never win one so i never really signed up for the forums so i figured what the heck i might as well join you really never know who would win. i LOVE hothardware it helps keep me up to date on my electronics ( boy how i LOVE electronics) good luck everyone, whoever wins this is a VERY lucky person.

Dragunover 4 years ago

I love the specs, and that's more than I could afford for a computer in the next 3 years, but I personally would have never used a Mid tower and 500GB HDD in an-otherwise full-tower 1TB+ build.

Still, I would die to get this beauty.

rapid1 4 years ago

Very nice unit I wonder who's going to be the lucky one this time?

Inspector 4 years ago

and the winner of this beauty is!...

rapid1

Congrats! we need pics and specs as always :D lol

rapid1 4 years ago

I wish Inspector, I promise it would be put to good use as well as pics specs bootmarks etc etc........

francoamerican5 4 years ago

Just came across this site for the first time and looks impressive. Always looking to find sites that give lots of good information on reviews and new products. Contests are also a good way to bring in people! ;) Looking forward to reading up on here. Thank you!

la_guy_10 4 years ago

I'll be happy with this puppy!!!!

melissaaggie98 4 years ago

Congrats Rapid1!

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah it would be great to win it, that's for sure.

One of the key things for me is the 1366 CPU socket. Where no it is not a very rare and wide open chip like the TWKR gibbersome won which is a 1 out of 100 C3 stepping chip. It is a 1366 socket which will also be used in the new chips coming from Intel with no modification from what I hear. The board itself is also a very nice one with a lot of PCI-x love on it as well as a very solidly made board with a lot of awesome components in it. The PSU is awesome, the case is awesome, the drives are awesome.

Just to note and as a credit to HH; every system I have seen them give out, has had great components all around. The systems Dave and Marco and HH through them gives out will be awesome every one for years to come.

rapid1 4 years ago

Anything talking about the awesomeness gibbersome won a TWKR alone is 1-100 in existence and is therefore RARE and beautiful just for that reason alone, but it is also just wide open if you can cool it, it can do it. The record on a TWKR chip is 8 GHZ and stable although with Liquid Nitrogen cooling. The system gibbersome won is however water cooled (with a good water cooling setup as well), so I would imagine he is totally stable between 4-5 Ghz operationally. This may take him a while to find the safe stable long range setting, but amazing things are proven possible with a TWKR.

rapid1 4 years ago

Hmmmmmm no posts on here today at all the last post is mine from last night.

realneil 4 years ago

Yep,....it just you so far.

How goes it?

nelsoncp21 4 years ago

ya know it's kinda weird that for as long as HH has been doing these give aways that some attract a large # of new comers and some don't and it doesn't appear to have anything to do with whats being given away. at least thats how I see it what do you guys think?

I think it depends on us. The previous Cyberpower sweepstakes was posted on a forum that I visit, and this one has been posted around on a few forums as well. The better we advertise, the more people will come over and join in. All in all, this site is the best kept secret when it comes to tech sites!

rapid1 4 years ago

"I think it depends on us. The previous Cyberpower sweepstakes was posted on a forum that I visit, and this one has been posted around on a few forums as well. Yes to a point I have HH on my facebook, am a twitter member to etc. With more of us using these mediums HH will get it's notice. However; do we want just anyone or people who in general have some knowledge to lend to the site. I am not saying no new user's at all, because that's one of the great things about HH.

I am talking about the fan boys and super trolls of which HH seemingly has a small number. These types spew junk like reader1 on daily, the stuff he says just makes no sense (he is a super Apple fan). We don't seem to have much of that is any, we have people who have an opinion, and can express it in a real way as well as constructively in general.

Inspector 4 years ago

That is so true, all of you have a general say to things not just fight for one side. I don't know who reader1 is but i bet he pre-ordered the ipad xD

rapid1 4 years ago

Oh thats almost guaranteed. I was just using him as an example of a fanboy. We don't have them on here. I mean now and now someone will post something fan boyish and or spammish. In general though it is like once a month, I don't know what HH's secret is, but I bet they could make money on it.

dcford 4 years ago

Does look like a pretty sweet rig.... Its great that you do this for the community / members

Kasel23 4 years ago

Another new member here.  Been lurking Tech sites lately as I'm getting back into the swing of tech advancement and whatnot.  HotHardware caught my eye as a very well put together site that seemed to cover everything that I am looking for in a Tech review/news site with what appears to be a great community.  Very cool to see such a great sweepstakes going on, really reflects well on the site and the guys' running it.  HotHardware is now taking its' place on my bookmark toolbar and staying there for the foreseeable future.  :)

rapid1 4 years ago

Of course if you sell the secret sauce everyone has it and someone will crack it somewhere. So I bet Dave and Marco keep it in a vault somewhere and only one of them has the key at a time :)

bob_on_the_cob 4 years ago

Wow Another awesome contest so soon guys. Big Smile I can't even keep up!

rapid1 4 years ago

I know bob they just keeping the contest's rolling on HH with awesome setups to boot. I am doing my best on this one!

bighorse 4 years ago

Wow a lot has gone on since the last time I had time to get back here to post. Welcome all the new members and glad to see all the fun chatter going on for this pretty little thing. It would be even sexier hooked up in my lair. Good luck everyone and all the praise to HH for the great offer to us drooling geeks.

rapid1 4 years ago

Lol bighorse yeah we seem to have a lot more newbies this time to the site. So it seems the keeping the contests rolling is working out well. As for making all of us geeks drool the last one and this one are some of the best I have seen since the Skull trail, although they did give away one of these I think (I7 920 anyway), right after that. Of course it did not have this GPU or an SSD.

rapid1 4 years ago

Wow still 3 weeks until this contests over!

gibbersome 4 years ago
Wow still 3 weeks until this contests over!
Haha, yep, two weeks down and three to go! And we've had quite a few new members joining up in those two weeks!

rapid1 4 years ago

Yep it is over next month on the 14th so not quite 3 weeks, but close enough. Keeping these contests running really seems to be benefiting the site well also. More new people is always good, and HH for some reason seems to draw great people in general. As I have said before the new members that come on for some reason seem to stay away from the flame war's, the negativity, and the spamming. It is great I just don't know how they do it there are flame wars trolls and spam on every other forum I can ever recall looking at except here. Whatever Marco and Dave and the extended staff do and however they do it seems to be a model of efficiency on these issues.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

Remember, new folks, you don't have to post here to get into the contest; you can actually say something meaningful on another news story. You can even post twice in a row to improve your numbers, as is the practice of another poster who shall remain nameless but who once accused me of pasting in a whole article to get my post count up. Ahem.

So I didn't win one of the pink Thermaltake boxes (I think those would best fall into the hazy "nettop" category anyway). I will thereby extend my pledge: That if I win this beast, I will put one of those Unix variants onto it (either it or my as-yet-untested homebrew system). Think of it! Your chance to spread Linux to one more individual! To make me memorize bizarre combinations of letters and punctuation marks ! To further the L4P movement! How can you give up a chance like this?

rapid1 4 years ago

Anyway whats your home brew Clem, and do you have it posted anywhere, or could I grab a direct transfer. I would like to check it out, what platform do you use, or is it a full build by you? Either way email me a link or something if there is one.

Zestia 4 years ago

Hi guys.

I'm new here.  I was reading up on the Coolermaster 840 chasis and found you.  You have some great stuff going on here including some video reviews I checked out last night.  I'm looking forward to integrating you into my daily tech fix.  Happy to be here!YesBig Smile

nelsoncp21 4 years ago
Just an FYI to avoid some confusion from anyone who might be new to the forums. We appreciate it if you can try to avoid double posts. If you have something else to add to a discusion and someone hasn't posted since your last in that thread you can use the edit button to add your additional comments. Also a little tip from the history of these giveaways. Post count does not determine who wins but the quality of your posts to the subject does. Random posts just to get your post count up won't help you." Not a sermon just a thought"

rapid1 4 years ago

Welcome Zestia and whatever new members I have not see yet today. We seem to be getting new members pretty regular. Of course for a contest on a PC like this one I can understand it though.

saints2009 4 years ago

Great  system for a contest giveaway.

rapid1 4 years ago

Great system for pretty much anything saints2009. I especially like it being of the 1366 chip socket variety. The 1366 MB has a much longer lifetime as I see it, so the system does as well. Not to mention alll the other hardware being top of the line as is.

acarzt 4 years ago

It is indeed a pretty sweet system.

rapid1 4 years ago

So I am looking at this contest and wondering something. Why has this specific post just stalled. I know it is not a necessity to post here, but I have still not ever seen the contest post just die.

realneil 4 years ago
Why has this specific post just stalled
I've been away, but I'm back now.

Hows about them Olympians?

rapid1 4 years ago

Well I just wondered after my post on the 24th there have been posts by me and 1 by gibbersome I think before yesterday! As for the Olympic's it looks like like Canada will take us in Gold. It might be somewhat close, but either way there the host so it is good I guess. As for overall medals we have everyone else including Canada shut down.

Inspector 4 years ago

:D what do you want us to post? if we do post it most likely would be nonsense post :D

3vi1 4 years ago

prime exempoator

realneil 4 years ago

I thought that Ono's disqualification was bogus and a thinly veiled attempt to garner more medals for Canada by a Canadian judge. Yes, the end of the race was hinky, but he didn't do anything to deserve a disqualification.

This year is Canada's first ever Winter Olympic Gold Medal Wins. Congratulations!

Sometimes these posts dry up a little bit but we still have all of the things to do in life that don't get done without our participation. I don't know about the rest of you, but my wife likes to see my face in front of hers, and not in front of this screen sometimes.

And then other times it's rapid-fire and hard to keep up.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

The only Winter Olympic event I watched was the Women's Biathlon. And that was because I completely misunderstood what the name referred to. After two hours of watching skiiers shooting at targets, I finally figured it out.

Inspector 4 years ago

LMFAO clem, i have been watching the Olympics the past few days but at random times while im on my comp -.-

realneil 4 years ago

I see as much of it as I can considering all I have going on,.....usually later on in the evenings. I've always enjoyed seeing the best of the best in action. There's usually a fair amount of drama unfolding and many a close call too. I don't watch sporting events as a rule, except when my kids or grand kids are involved. But I do like the Superbowl and other final championship games, unless they're a rout.

gibbersome 4 years ago

Incredible hockey game earlier! And an even more amazing finish. Canada won, fittingly I think. The people of Canada deserved it for the support and excitement they supplied to the Olympics

realneil 4 years ago
Canada won, fittingly I think
Yes, they played better that game and deserved the gold. Both teams were kick-ass good though. I enjoyed watching that one as well and I'm not a hockey fan.

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah realneil I agree on your pointers on the Ono disqualification. I guess let them have there glory, also as far as it goes in total metals we wiped the floor. We are pretty close in Gold as well, in fact I think the highest ever won by a single country before this Olympics was 10. So we got that and beat every other country in the world in total metals considerably.

gibbersome 4 years ago

The US ended up with 10 gold medals vs Canada's 14. Pretty impressive for a country one-tenth our population size! It's safe to say that North America dominated the Winter Olympics this year.

Demogon 4 years ago

I definitely need an upgrade like this! it would kill my current rig like a Noob!

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah gibbersome I think so to we still beat them in total metals considerably. And Demogon this system would be an upgrade for many (Me included) I imagine, and a considerable one for most. That may be skewed on here I don't know how many have a 1366 chip socket board and it's accompanying goodness. I do know I don't have one!

rapid1 4 years ago

Very true Gibbersome North America (Canada and the US combined) owned these games. If you look at it that way North America got 24 GOLD medals as well as 64 total medals Vs. the rest of the world. This does make a good point Our continent rules the world at least sports wise.

realneil 4 years ago

Back to the System at hand,......... I like the Keyboard:  Xtreme Gear Multimedia and the Mouse: Xtreme Gear Optical USB 3 Button.

Those came with my CyberPower PC and they really do work well.

la_guy_10 4 years ago

you bet

gibbersome 4 years ago

New Orleans by any chance? I must admit that I assumed Los Angeles when I saw the "la" prefix.

@rapid1 Good luck! You've been one of the most consistent contributors on HH!

rapid1 4 years ago

Thanks gibbersome I appreciate it, I try and make my contributions good ones!

la_guy_10 4 years ago

Yea Gibbersome NOLA come party with us sometime!!!!!

rapid1 4 years ago

I agree with both realneil, and commiserate with la_guy_10, the input seems to be very good, and I definitely hope to win this system.

Inspector 4 years ago

Yep we all want to win a new beast to mess around with :D! Best of luck still 2 weeks or so left!

rapid1 4 years ago

It's the third now so it's actually only 11 or 12 days now. As far as everyone wanting to win I don't see how anyone could not want to win a package like this one. As I have stated before the 1366 chip socket units at least to me are the cream of the crop right now, as well as having the widest and most valid path going forward. They are I guess somewhat fittingly the most expensive as well so definitely out of my reach right now.

Marius Malek 4 years ago
Indeed. This system has a lot of room for future upgrades as well. I first learned about the contest through Cyberpower's facebook page, advertising you guys. It's not often that people are this generous with hardware.

2 weeks left? I'm anxious XD

realneil 4 years ago

Dave and Marco and all of the Hot-hardware staff are silver tongued I think,....they have the ears of allot of manufacturers and keep on talking them into providing prizes for us to consume. It's a good situation if you're a member and you take the time, (enough times) to post here.

Thanks again to you guys who run this site. We really appreciate what you're doing.

Marius Malek 4 years ago

Spoken very truly. Winning this rig would not only help with college (trust me haha) but help me save money for food and other dorm life related expenses.

Anyway, good luck everyone, and thanks again HH!

Inspector 4 years ago

Yep Good luck to you too! :D Best of luck to ALL!

I find it funny that when ever its near the end of a contest most post in the contest/ relating to the contest thread is about giving each other luck xD

There's a user named cyberpowerpc is that the real cyberpowerpc<3 or someone posing as them??? :D

rapid1 4 years ago

I wonder how many people who are student's we have on here Marius. I know I am, and gibbersome is, and you are that's 3 is anyone else a student, of any kind? I am pretty sure there's at least 2 or more as well!

Nethersprite 4 years ago

I'm a student as well, working on my Bachelor's, but because of some red tape I have NO financial aid (even though I, of all people at the school, probably need it most), so winning this rig would be totally awesome.

Thanks for the giveaway, and I look forward to being a part of the discussions here!

Inspector 4 years ago

im a student! :D im only 15 so i have to be a student... Welcome nether and i hoe you stick around even after the contest! HH has lots of sweepstakes, very often too. (Next one should include Canada as Dave or was it Marco that said that :D)

rapid1 4 years ago

Wow; I would have guessed you were older Inspector! Also the the poster who is having student aid issues, I know that feeling to.

There must be some kind of difficulty from the FED, because all my charges for next quarter are just sitting there. This means until something comes through, and as both an adult continuing my education and a disabled (yes I am on a 200% scale (which is how they measure it), 170% deaf, or I hear at a 30% rate in one ear, totally deaf in the other),individual I qualify. However nothing has come through even from Sallie Mae, so something is messed up. I also hear that they are going to be raising cost's across the board in higher education, which very well may leave me and many, many more stalled.

Either way enough about the woe's of the world. On HH in many aspects such as this (not to mention many other contests), which have run on here I applaud the site as well as Dave and Marco for giving us something to wish for, on a regular basis. This is not to even mention one of the best websites/forums on the web, at least to me as well as I am sure many of you. Maybe one day I will win, and this one specifically to me would be a MAJOR win, as well as something I could really use (and with these components for quite some time), for a lot of things school (I go to school 100% over the web), directly as well as many other things!

Inspector 4 years ago

well im almost 16(in a month and a half) so does that count as older? xD (My profile says im 15 all over it xD "literary").

Rapid1 i wish you the best of luck :D, this is indeed a system to be used for a few years with some upgrade every so or few years. And good luck to ALL!

greyad 4 years ago

ok take me in the contest :)

la_guy_10 4 years ago

Well since we are speaking of education , I am in college myself for computer science and loving every min of it.

rapid1 4 years ago

So am I la_guy I will finish my associates after Finite math next quarter. Well if my student aid stuff comes through, and I am able to take it anyway. Then on to Bachelors studies, Luckily I am gonna be over credit to. So 1 year +1 more quarter I will be done with bachelors and on to masters. What specialty in computer science are you in, I am going for security I think, as it will give me a wider path ahead (it in most cases back applies for any other job within networking, and administration as well as for Security itself)!

vegeta100 4 years ago

i cant post in foruems i dunno y??

la_guy_10 4 years ago

Security is a good area to be in. I am more partial to hardware, hey thats why I am here at HotHardware!!! The software side does not really excite me like talking, viewing , studying, hardware. Good Luck with your education. I probably should be in electrical engineering but......

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah I have worked in hardware since 1993 on the computer side and network side. I started on my own though (it was actually before all the certs etc existed), and want to move towards one of the three either system admin, network admin, or security/security-database admin.

Vegeta100 4 years ago

cool i want to win this b/c this old computer i have i cant play any games only cs.1.6 and warcraft 3.

animatortom 4 years ago

Yeah!!! Switch the GPU and this would make an awsome workstation :)

rapid1 4 years ago

Well Firefox has a new theme layout called persona's. Here is the link to the king of all

http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/persona/118606 Persona's!

I imagine this GPU would most likely take high end Fire Pro or Fire GL cards as I know people change them out. The easiest way to do so is find the one with the closest hardware, then install the driver for it, keep a default driver in a folder on your desk if it fails install it on the reboot.

ClemSnide 4 years ago

I just want to clarify something: In the past I've promised, if I win a system here, to install a Unix variant onto it. Please be assured it will not be a North Korean Linux.

Only 5 more days till some lucky person wins this beauty of a unit. As far as HH goes they seem to do these contests more consistently than any other site I have seen. For my opinion Dave and Marco as well as everyone else at HH deserves a big hand for doing this, as well as giving us very straight new, a great forum, and good benchmark and convention as well as new items coverage (not to mention the great podcasts as of late on a regular basis)!

Inspector 4 years ago

Can't wait to see who wins! Good luck Rapid1! Smile This site is the best along with Dave, Marco and all the sponsors that make the contest possible!

Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, HHardware!

In this economy, This would be a great upgrade for my DCC build! Would just need to trade the Radeon for a FireGL :(

Although My HD4850 Still Rocks!!

boa49 4 years ago

How in the world do you guys get such great prizes to give away? This is the best site I visit.

rapid1 4 years ago

I totally agree boa49. I really think it adds to the site validity for them to have all these affiliates who are active market players, but not on the development (other than assembly/design) part of the market. Which is also why there able to do these things, but do not change or have much of a reason to regarding new or existing product development.

It also gives me the feeling they are very respected in all the fields. Electronics, devices, and computer (as well as everything in them) are everywhere today, and honest outlooks as well as valid discussion which HH enables strengthens me as a consumer in many ways even including professional outlook on many things.

rapid1 4 years ago

Welcome Twisted. I personally am getting excited someone will win this beautiful unit in 3 days. Not to mention as I have said the upgrade path for a system like this is wide now, especially seeing the new 6 core CPU, and whatever comes after it will go straight into it as well.

Inspector 4 years ago

:P rapid that's if they have the money to put it in Wink lol

rapid1 4 years ago

Thats true Inspector, but the option is there is what I am saying. There is also the fact that generally Intel releases there top of the line unit first. This I am sure will happen with the 6 core just like any other. A little bit after that release they drop the rest of the line, then a few months after that they update generally on the new line say 6 to 9 months. So by default with a 1366 chip socket you have a year clear for upgrades at the least. If the 1366 chip socket last's anywhere near the time of the 747 socket you have many years. I don't know right now though, as technology is moving so fast, and Intel is on the front line of that movement in many ways, so it may not. Either way I don't see it being fully replaced for 2 to 3 years probably, because as a socket, it is very efficient with tri-channel memory, added PCI-X bus etc. I do think it will be upgraded on the same socket before to long to further widen or make more efficient that memory bus, and of course the addition of USB and SATA 3 is going on right now as well. I imagine intel will upgrade the socket and make those two specific components more in place added to there bus capabilities or at least operational figures and methods.

Which basically leaves you overall with an awesome system that can be upgraded for some time, and in anyone's outlook will give you an awesome system ready for the next course if you get my drift. Not to mention the secondary CPU's will be hundreds cheaper than the top of the line. Think about the current one and the I7 920, the top of the line for first release is still 999 until the 6 core is released, where the I7 920 is 289. Even if your strapped you can save 20 a month for a year and get the upgrade, while everything else (which are all solid components), can just stay the same. So basically financially strapped or not you win an awesome system for a year to two years for free, which can also by default stay top of the line with a very low cash flow.

Yup Marius put accentuate the case in Gold and cubic Zirconium chunks after refinishing the case in a deep silver metallic like platinum color, change all the lights to the brightest yellow you can and paint "My lil Pimp Rig" in a very small scale rotating lines around it.

Hey gibbersome why did you make your girlfriend take a bath in Cheetos, I have heard of some crazy stuff, but that's super freaky Bro. Either way if all a woman needs is her nail's done, which takes oh about 10 minutes. Well I would say she definitely leans hard on that perfect classification.

Oh wait I get it gibbersome if you make her take a bath in Cheetos (and post pics of it) your thinking maybe they will let you win this system to. OK I get it now!

Marius Malek 4 years ago

This website has me hooked haha.

I was roaming my school hallways this afternoon browsing the site on my Blackberry.

You know what's the worse part about this? Not being able to control youself from thinking "what if" and envisioning you winning this contest, or any contest for that matter.

Best of luck to everyone.

Inspector 4 years ago

By the way Marius can you post from your blackberry? cause i can't from my iphone unless its from the main page blog reply.

Inspector 4 years ago

Lets all email (SPAM) Marco and Dave to announce the winners! lol JK

Zestia 4 years ago

All in due time, I'm sure. And I'm quite certain that an announcement email will be sent out to everyone. Once the announcement email arrives, It will be like having your door bell ring and finding smiling Ed McMahon with a ten million dollar check in hand. Only, hopefully much less eerie on account of his not being with us anymore. Who's been delivering those checks these days?

la_guy_10 4 years ago

Congrats rapid1 are you still going to bling it out? I would leave it bone stock except maybe overclock it some.

rapid1 4 years ago

lol good question la_guy I was just making a joke on someone Else's comment. I might though we will see. Would not be a bad idea for sure, neither would leaving it bone stock. As for the OC U know DAT"S Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will probably see if I can liquid cool the CPU right away! Or throw a MegaHelm on it. I have a tube of Arctic Silver Ceramique right here in my drawer (yeah I buy the big tube), two things you never buy a small tube of cpu cooling compound, and the other ones private :p

Yep!,....they show the love in a real tangible way here. The thing is that even without all of the rapid-fire prize giveaways, it's still a decent place to hang and read up on your TECH.

rapid1 4 years ago

I could not agree more realneil. I may have won last night, and I am still surprised by it. However; this site is great all the way around in many ways to me way besides that. The reviews are solid, the discussion is very good, as is the getting pointers on specifics (Things you've never done, or as to people who are inexperienced with anything technologically speaking). I also like the open commentary element of it, and the fact that it is a great deal more spam free as well as troll free, seems a pretty great accomplishment to me as well. Oh and by the way just cause I won something your not getting rid of me either!

Inspector 4 years ago

Its not the decline in memory... This is all FREE so you can't have it be the top of the line build! someone has to pay for this you know. If you want them you can always add them in yourself.

realneil 4 years ago
what's with the capping of memory to 6gb
It's a triple channel system. 3 each of whatever you put in there, or 6 of them.

3 2GB should make the system boogie along just fine. 4GB works great in all of my systems, but I have enough of it laying around to bump them all to 8GB.

Oh, and why bother to complain about the memory in a system you haven't even won yet? (think: shooting oneself in the foot) LOL!

rapid1 4 years ago

Triple channel memory runs memory just like any other type of memory per channel. So if it is a 6 slot mother board 6gb in a 6 slot MB, or 3 x 2gb with 3 free. You can run other setups such as lower per each sot for 6 or for three. The most efficient is to fill 1 of each channel (as in the 3 of 6 slots), and DDR3 is cheap enough right now for 2gb sticks to be the chosen generally.

rapid1 4 years ago

I finally got this system. Unluckily though my memory adapter has gone out. So I have to get a new one before I can upload any photos. I am also dealing with finals right now, and I don't have it tweaked yet either. I will say it booted in 17 seconds to active windows. I have done no OC at all yet, as I have not figured out how I will go about cooling when i get there. So it is running stock speed now (just got it last night)! I will also get some pics uploaded soon I promise.

realneil 4 years ago
I have done no OC at all yet
Congrats Rapid!  Now, I will eagerly await those pics, despite the setbacks you mentioned.

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah I somewhat agree realneil and Mental it is, but in general I will get to messing around sooner or later :) That's just me, I have not tweaked Windows 7 yet either, but I know that will happen sooner than later.

Inspector 4 years ago

YEA! the system is finally in your hands! Now the long journey for pics has started!

rapid1 4 years ago

realneil 4 years ago

Runs good, doesn't it?

Like a Ferrari in Ferrari's clothing, I'll bet!

rapid1 4 years ago

Yes it runs awesome and I have not even oc'd anything. I have not even started sorting through Windows 7 to speed it up, and tweak it. It just runs flawless. I actually was talking with Sarah last night. I feel bad I have been die hard AMD for years, and built all my own so I know they're tweaked or have been and set up right OC'd the best for speed and stability etc etc. This system works better as soon as I had is set up which took a bit as the heatsink fan was detached, and it was a rubber grommet x4 attachment (of course I did not realize it as I have not ever worked with one). So it took a bit to get everything sorted. Either way I have to redo the benchmarks because I pasted them into word documents on some of them, which I can't attach here.

rapid1 4 years ago

The WB Black 750GB, and Samsung Spinpoint 750GB were my 32 meg cache hard drives I added. The SSD is the Kingston SSD that came in the PC, The only Benchmark I have right now is ScienceMark 2.0. I saved the other ones in the wrong format and cannot post them. I will get them done as the week goes on these are posted on my profile in my media file named Benchmarks. I will add them there as I get more done. I have to go check some paperwork, and turn in my two finals right now.

rapid1 4 years ago

My benchmarks folder is getting full if anyone wants to see them. These 4, Cinebench, Heaven DX11, and some others are there. I got my mem card adapter at Wally World, and the pics should be uploaded tomorrow. Then I get to throw the 5850 in and match clock it with the 5870, and then think about OC work with some liquid cooling maybe. Oh and they announced today (at least as far as I saw it), that the board is compatible with the new Intel X7 six core guns in it to. So I am thinking I will be good with this rig for quite some time :) Thanks guys oh and if you want me to organize or put up the photos and benches anywhere specific rather than having them strewn around the website, just let me know where you want them.

Devil_Dante 4 years ago

Well since it's your new rig, I suggest you just go ahead and post all of your pics and benchmarks in the "My Rig!" forum, instead of having multiple posts scattered throughout this thread.
