Samsung Reportedly Prepping Galaxy S Tablet Line With 2560x1600 Display, Fingerprint Sensor

No rest for the weary -- hot on the heels of technically losing (but really winning) a patent infringement trial brought forth by Apple, Samsung is supposedly gearing up to further flesh out its tablet family with the addition of the Galaxy Tab S. Word on the web is that the Galaxy Tab S will come in two display sizes -- an 8.4-inch model and a 10.5-inch SKU.

Both will be the first tablets to sport an AMOLED display with a WQXGA resolution (2560x1600). Samsung clearly isn't messing around here. While the South Korean electronics maker has taken advantage of this display technology in its smartphones and digital cameras, it's been mostly missing in the tablet category. If you recall, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was the first ever table with a Super AMOLED Plus display, which the oft-reliable SamMobile claims was intended to test the technology itself since OLED was still fairly young. Apparently feeling confident in the developments since then, the Galaxy Tab S is next in line.

The Galaxy Tab S will also be the first tablet to sport a fingerprint sensor, in case you care about that sort of thing. Such technology is trending in mobile on the smartphone side, and like the Galaxy S5 handset, the sensor will be embedded in the home button. All the same fingerprint features from the Galaxy S5 will be ported to the Galaxy Tablet S, including Fingerprint Unlock, PayPal Payments, Private Folder, and Samsung Apps login.

As for the other hardware, the Galaxy Tab S will feature an octa-core Exynos 5 (5420) System-on-Chip (SoC) based on ARM's big.LITTLE technology (four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores), 6-core ARM Mali-T628 GPU clocked at 533MHz, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 8MP rear-facing camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, optional LTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, microUSB 2.0 port, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
