Get Your Vista SP1 Discs!

As with all rumors, please take the following news item with a grain of salt until we can receive official confirmation or denial from Microsoft.

“Vista SP1 shipped to duplication and OEMs Feb. 4, but since then it has only been available to previous beta testers, volume licensing customers and subscribers to IT subscription services. In fact, subscribers to TechNet and Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) only got access to SP1 after raising a ruckus, with some threatening to cancel their subscriptions and others saying they would postpone Vista deployment.”

So what about the rest of us, especially those waiting to get fresh discs with the service pack already applied?  Are we doomed to long installs/re-installs and the subsequent updates for months to come?  Thankfully the answer to that is a resounding “no.”  Our wait will allegedly come to an end on Tuesday the 19th when retailers are expected to release Vista SP1 discs to the masses.

Happy installing!

While it's good to see Microsoft is working to improve Vista and fix their mistakes, it would be nice if they could do such things prior to its initial release. Maybe by the time Windows 7 comes out Vista will be as it should have been all along.

Vista is already great and works well. Ofcourse it's rather pointless defending it against haters like yourself...

Good ol' patch tuesday -- be careful guys! SP1 will break a lot of 3rd party drivers and doesn't like many security programs.....probably want to set an image before installing SP1.....

 .....But what do I know

I'd say you know much more than the OP. Anyway, I'm personally not too keen on upgrading to SP1, everything seems fine as it is. It does tweak Vista alot, let's see, I'm going to wait for some feedback before I upgrade. My main worry is Steam and some of my favorite games, If they work fine, I'll upgrade :)

Hey man, lighten up some, no need to get hostile.  Everyone has their opinion.

Thanks for circling the wagons JeffB and Super Dave. One of the many things I like about this forum is the pleasant atmosphere due largely in part to the close knitt community and lack of toleration for flaming. I am not nearly as active in other forums as I am here because of all the immature people who will flame you just for the sake of starting drama.

Perhaps you should wait for some feedback before you even post again. Your posts are welcome, SnakeDoctor, but please don't flame our HotHardware brethren, unless they are spammers (and then it is open-season).

Now now, there's no need for name calling is there SnakeDoctor? Just because I'm not as impressed with Vista as you seem to be is no reason to take it personal. By the way, welcome to the forum.
