There was a rumor last fall that Android 5.0
, codenamed Key Lime Pie
, would be announced on October 29th
at an Android
event. (Note: No Key Lime Pie there.) Now, a new rumor has emerged indicating that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie may launch at the end of this October, a full year after we’d first hoped to see it.

According to its Google
sources, VR-Zone believes that Android 5.0 will hit around that time, which is also when the Motorola X may be unveiled. Further, Android 5.0 will reportedly be optimized to run on handsets with just 512MB of RAM, which would ostensibly allow lower-end phones to run Google’s latest and greatest version of Android.

That could be a big deal for smartphone manufacturers who are looking to hit more market spaces with a greater variety of phones at multiple price points. More importantly, it could be a boon to consumers who want a modern, up-to-date operating system without breaking the bank for a high-end handset.
