Need a new storage device? Who doesn't, right? Rain Computers has delivered the StormDrive multimedia external hard drive, a pocket-sized device that's all-black and just slightly larger than a deck of cards. It's a USB 3.0 unit, and tucked within is the same hard drive architecture used in Rain’s popular LiveBook Mobile Audio Workstation and the amazing new LiveBook V2 Mobile Video + Graphics Workstation. Users are offered a choice of conventional 250GB, 500GB or 750GB high performance drives which spin at 7200 RPM and use a larger than average 16 megabyte cache to prevent bottlenecks and dropouts. A Solid State Drive, or SSD, is also available.
The newer SATA III
SSD drives are available in 256GB or 512GB capacities, with prices starting at $99. It's compatible with Linux, Mac and Windows, depending on how you format it.
RAIN COMPUTERS BRINGS BACK STORMDRIVE MULTIMEDIA EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE
World Renown Creative Computer Designer, Rain, Releases New and Improved StormDrive Multimedia USB 3.0 Hard Drive
RINGWOOD, NJ – November 4, 2011 – Amidst the noisy release of its new,
critically acclaimed desktop and mobile workstations for music and
video, Rain Computer also quietly introduced the world to its newest
pocket-sized portable hard drive. Called StormDrive, the sleek, little
unit is a stealthy black box, just a bit bigger than a deck of cards.
Inside is your choice of a standard hard drive or Solid State Drive
(SSD) designed to deliver large audio and video files at very high speed
via the new USB 3.0.
StormDrive is not a new concept for Rain. In years past, their line of
external and portable hard drives was ever present, offering extended
storage to all computer users in search of performance suitable for
audio, video and graphics production. And, while the name StormDrive is
also shared with the CD, DVD and Blu-Ray drives available in all Rain
computers, the portable hard drive version was taken back to the drawing
board and subsequently re-released in a form more befitting the modern
creative computer user.
This new version offers a single USB 3.0 connection. Referred to as
Super Speed USB, the new data transfer offers a maximum throughput of
4.8 gigabits per second, roughly 10 times faster than its predecessor,
USB 2.0.
“It used to be that the only way to get the kind of speed you need for
audio and video was to use the drives in your computer.” explained Kevin
Jacoby, CEO of Rain Computers, Inc. “But with faster drives and high
speed connections like USB 3.0, you can easily stream all of your
projects right into the computer from a drive that’ll fit in your back
pocket. Gotta love it.”
Inside StormDrive is the same hard drive architecture used in Rain’s
popular LiveBook Mobile Audio Workstation and the amazing new LiveBook
V2 Mobile Video + Graphics Workstation. Users are offered a choice of
conventional 250GB, 500GB or 750GB high performance drives which spin at
7200 RPM and use a larger than average 16 megabyte cache to prevent
bottlenecks and dropouts. A Solid State Drive, or SSD, is also available
offering its user instant access to data with no moving parts and
shockingly fast transfer rates. The newer SATA III SSD drives are
available in 256GB or 512GB capacities.
StormDrive Multimedia USB 3.0 Hard Drive, which starts at $99, is
compatible with all computers and operating systems like Windows 7,
Apple’s OSX and the increasingly popular Linux. StormDrive is available
now through the Rain Custom Shop and through select Rain Authorized
Dealers like American Musical Supply, Amazon.com and Musician’s Friend.
