R.I.P. Netscape

We knew it was coming, but now it's official: Netscape Navigator is officially dead.

"AOL has released its last ever update for Netscape Navigator and is encouraging its remaining users to switch to Flock or Firefox."

Hmmm...no recommendation to go grab the latest version of Explorer.  It is possible that the final version of Navigator will remain viable for some time, but we expect that it will one day simply be a footnote in WWW-history.

Wow!  I thought that was dead a long time ago. I use to use it myself many many years ago back about 1995-1996, but since switched to IE, Firefox and Opera as the three I use now.  I am new to the Opera area and am exploring it right now.

I too used to use netscape a lot -- mosty during school hours on the premier iMac desktops that were released bcak in the day -- back when it was pretty much the premier browser (next to IE)....

If I went back in time 10 years ago and told people this they would probably laugh at me........

I could of sword I heard this a couple of months ago. Was it just announced? or?...

Personally, I'm somewhat glad..I never liked netscape =D...lol. When I work with webdesign, I always have to make sure the pages I finish work in every major browser, IE, Opera, FireFox, safari, and Netscape. As long as one is off the charts...better for me =P. Netscape obviously hasn't had much of a following anymore, but I still thought it best to check =P.

Netscape probably wouldn't have gone down if they atleast focused more staff/funds towards it...Can't even remember hearing any updates regard it...

LOL, I can see that happening too.  They would think you lost all your marbles.  It would be funny if you could do this then fast forward back to today and watch the jaws drop.  Surprise
