QNAP Turbo NAS Devices Gain XDove Mail Support

Just before QNAP temporarily shut its doors to celebrate the Chinese New Year, it delivered news that the XDove all-in-one mail server was freely available for its growing line of Turbo NAS devices. As of now, owners of the TS-109, TS-209, TS-409, TS-509 and TS-639 can convert their Linux-embedded network attached storage into "a powerful mail server which provides SMTP, POP3 and IMAP services, multiple virtual domains / accounts, AJAX webmail with extended functionality (including personal folders, address book, calendar and real-time chat among users under the same mail server), scheduled backups and the restoration of mailboxes from multiple domains."

The XDove mail server itself is named after the the open source XMail and Dovecot, and according to QNAP, even the novice can get their mail up and running in no time. As would be expected on a NAS device, the new software supports full mailbox backup and restore, providing owners with "extra protection on the top of the RAID data redundancy." In addressing the integrated instant messaging capabilities, AdNovea -- one of the primary developers of XDove -- stated: "All you need is a web browser and Internet access and you can talk on the web conveniently with other users anywhere."
