You’re a bit all over the shop with this article. IPads are not computers. People buy Ipad’s because their "cool" and the new fad but then realize that you can’t really work on them. It’s a fun gadget device not a desktop replacement. People that have ipad still have desktop. Surely you must understand the difference? Your comment regarding “Windows is vulnerable to direct competition” is very misleading. Windows as you say in your article is a desktop OS. Windows holds over 90% of the Desktop market. |

My comment, as you partially quoted, summarizes Asymco's findings, not my own. |

Although iPads don't count towards apples desktop market share their brand popularity from the ipad makes people want to buy more of their products, such as their desktops or laptops. Leading to an increase in their os market share. Also, even though tablets cant replace desktops or laptops when you need to get a lot of work done, they do have many pros over desktops and laptops. I don't see tablets as a fad due to the convenience and portability of them over laptops and desktops. Most of the time I find my self using a tablet over a laptop just because tablets or much more convenient for doing basic things then pulling out and turning on my laptop. I would still choose to buy a laptop or desktop over a tablet due to the price to performance and function out of the devices, but tablets have become a lot cheaper and I am pretty sure they are going to become much more powerful in coming years. |
