Office 2007 SP1 Now Available for Download

It's here.  Now the question is, can we toggle the Ribbon off?

As promised, Microsoft has released SP1 for Office 2007 today, available on their Office download site. At the same time, Microsoft has released SP1 for Visio 2007 and Project 2007.

The Office 2007 SP1 link, which was dead until just a few minutes ago, is now live, and is here. As I indicated earlier, for now, due to recent concerns over Automatic Updating, this will be a manual-only install.

Did we ask about the Ribbon yet?  Based on the linked whitepaper, it doesn't look like turning off the oft-criticized Ribbon is a new option.  Heavy sigh.

What is this "Ribbon" thing? I haven't tried Office 2007 yet, so I don't know. Is it like the blathering paperclip?

Such a pig of an app... I agree. Outlook is pretty horrible. I haven't given it much research but any thoughts on a decent alternative?

Personally I like Office 2007. Being the network admin at work I get to test it and so far so good. I love Outlooks new format and I haven't had a bit of trouble with any of the other programs. I rolled it out to one user and she loves it as well.

As for the "ribbon", are you referring to the bar at the top where your functions are listed instead of having drop down menus?

My son, a high school junior, wants to take advantage of that wonderful $8 deal! Do you have any info for me, Mental?

Super Dave, your son probably cannot get that deal unless the High School that he goes to is part of the Microsoft Academic Alliance and offers students those products so they can install them on their home computers.  Just about every college and university offers MS products like this for real cheap so the college students can put them on their home computer.

Thanks for that info, Drago!

Every employee in my company can get Office 2007: Student/Teacher Edition for $20 thru Microsoft. Only one copy per employee and you have to jump thru a few hoops in order to get it.
