Nokia Announces Lumia 510 Windows Phone

Nokia's made no bones about the fact that it's gone all-in with Microsoft's Windows Phone platform, hence it's not all that shocking the handset maker decided to launch a Windows Phone 7.5 device with Windows Phone 8 on the horizon. The new Lumia 510 thus takes its place as Nokia's new entry-level Windows Phone, picking up the slack at "lower price points."

Some quick specs:
  • 4-inch WVGA (800x480) capacitive touchscreen
  • Snapdragon S1 processor
  • 256MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage (7GB free SkyDrive storage)
  • 5MP rear-facing camera with autofocus

"With the Nokia Lumia 510 we continue to meet our commitment to bring Windows Phone to new, lower price points," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices. "People who use Windows Phone quickly realize how much more intuitive it is than other smartphone platforms, and Nokia Lumia is the best embodiment of the Windows Phone experience. With the Nokia Lumia 510 we're looking forward to welcoming more people into the Windows Phone experience."

There are five color options (perhaps to distract you from the pedestrian hardware), including cyan, red, white, yellow, and black. As for the price, the Nokia Lumia 510 will be available in November for around $199, which is the full retail cost. Depending on carrier, subsidized pricing could knock the phone down to $49 or even make it a free device, though neither of those have been confirmed.
