No Way! Advertising On Google's Home Page?

No Way! Advertising On Google's Home Page?

It's the third day in a row that Google has celebrated the upcoming 40th anniversary of Sesame Street with a different Google Doodle, but that's not what drew our attention to their home page. Google has always said it wants to keep their home page sparse, yet today, there was a rarity: an ad.

It's not as though Google has never put an ad on their home page (think back to Chrome, and the T-Mobile G1), and of course, this is Motorola Droid launch day, and there's nothing like highlighting your well advertised and much-hyped product, is there?

Granted, it's really Motorola's and Verizon's product, but still ...

At any rate, there's a hard limit of no more than 28 words on Google's home page, and this one weighs in at 27 words, so ad or no ad, it's OK by Google's standards.

Compare it to the Yahoo front page and you may see a big difference.

This doesn't bother me at all, but I did notice it.

Ahh, but I hate the Yahoo homepage, so cluttered. Love the cleanliness and simplicity of Google.

But the recent downturn in economy has seen a hit on Google's revenue, so I'm not completely surprised by this move. :/

Wow... you just made me realize how long it's been since I went to Yahoo's main page for anything.

It looks like they have a 9k page that immediately redirects you to a "personal" page that's 116K!  sheez.  No wonder MS was trying to buy them - they're getting out-eviled!  :p

Ack! Well thats why the google homepage is the most widely visited on smart phones.

At least Google and Bing homepages are clean. That yahoo page is cluttered and ugly. That was the first time I have been to the yahoo homepage in a long time as well 3vi1.

english please ?

Google.com homepage is 1/5 the size of Bing.com homepage

Thank you for translating acarzt. :)

Maybe their mom needed an operation or something.
