NVIDIA Embraces PlayStation 4 with PhysX and APEX Support
"Great physics technology is essential for delivering a better gaming experience and multiplatform support is critical for developers," said Mike Skolones, product manager for PhysX at NVIDIA. "With PhysX and APEX support for PlayStation 4, customers can look forward to better games."
This also provides an opportunity for NVIDIA to attach itself to a console that's dominated by AMD DNA. The PS4 is essentially a PC platform in a console skin comprised of a semi-custom Fusion system-on-chip (SoC) with an integrated eight-core x86 Jaguar APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) and a custom Radeon HD core that's similar in spec to a Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition graphics card.
