Microsoft To Prospective Employees: Get In Shape
The job description for sales associates says:
A Microsoft employee in the U.K. first noticed this requirement, and then TechFlash dug further and found that store managers need only be able to lift 50 pounds. Retail technical advisors also have the 75 pound requirement, while retail trainers have the lower, 50 pound requirement.
It
might be worth noting that "Microsoft technology knowledge" is merely a
"plus" in getting the job for associates and store managers are told
only that "previous experience working with and selling technology" is
"preferred."The weight lifting descriptions, however, are listed under "abilities required." So, you MUST be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds, but you don't have to know squat about Microsoft products. good to see priorities are in order.
The managers are simply required to "recruit, interview, hire, train and develop" this team - "the most knowledgable and skilled team in retail." And keep attrition at less than 20 percent annually, which, in this job market, one might imagine, should be relatively easy.
The first stores will open in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mission Viejo, Calif. The job descriptions don't include salary ranges.

By lift... do they mean curl? Benchpress? Squat? Deadlift? Shrug? There are many ways you can lift something lol and do you have to lift all 75 pounds at once? Can't you just lift like 20 here 30 there and then get the last 25 later? lol I didn't think a microsoft store would have anything that heavy. Maybe large TVs? I can see server equipmet... and I have to do a site relocation once... those backup batteries can be INSANELY heavy! P.S. My A.C. is out, anyone know how to fix it? lol I live in San Antonio and we just had 50+ straight days of 100+ degree temps!! I'm sitting here sweating my bum off! |

A full size server will approach 75 pounds. Hell, I'm pretty sure my Cosmos 1000 (thanks HH!) weighs more than 60 pounds with everything in it. But it is a ridiculous requirement for every employee to do at least 50 pounds. Those out of shape nerds that can actually help people will be unable to work there. |

Brawn over brains? *edit* Actually, there are currently no ladies where I work. I have to look at dudes all day, and it is quite boring. In the past, the burly women that worked in the warehouse didn't last long, and they had the same preferences as the guys, if you know what I mean. I have to wonder if Bill Gates himself can lift 75 lbs! |
What a concept! Being a warehouse guy, this intrigues me. How high must the associates be able to lift that 75 lbs? And how many ladies will be excluded by this requirement? I must tell you, there are NO ladies lifting that kind of girth where I work. |
My job requires me to be able to lift 75 lbs. My supervisor is a female who can bearly lift her monitor let alone a server or something actually heavy. I bet they have similar equal rights rules there where if you have a vagina, the reqs don't apply. Furthermore, it's not hard to lift 75lbs, I don't think that will be a big problem for most applicants. |
