Maingear Expands Its Gaming Laptop Line with the Nomad 15
Maingear is rounding out its laptop lineup with the new NOMAD 15, giving you a 15-inch alternative to the larger NOMAD 17 gamer. Customization is key at boutique builders like Maingear, so it’s no surprise that the laptop is offered with several graphics, processor, and other component choices. And, of course, you can pick the color for your hand-painted system.
Graphics options range from the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M to the 680M. Maingear has a “one-touch” over-clocking feature that is meant to give you a fast and safe way to kick the GPU up a notch. CPUs go up to the 3rd generation Intel i7-3840QM and memory can be up to 32GB of DDR5-1600Mhz, should you need that much. And as the model number suggests, the NOMAD 15 has a 15.5-inch 1920 X 1080 LED-backlit display. The display has a matte, rather than a glossy, finish for less glare.
The system has several storage options, including RAID 0, as well as Blu-ray writer and a media card reader. It also has a few USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and HDMI, DVI-I, and Fire-Wire ports. The Killer Networks LAN E2200 adapter gives you some gamer-friendly features like a control panel that lets you see which apps are affecting your rig’s performance. The Killer Wireless-N 1202 package is optional. Sound is provided by DynAudio speakers and THX TruStudio Pro. Interestingly, Maingear is sticking to Windows 7 for the operating system.
The starting price for the laptop is $1,549. That buys you an Intel Core i7 3740QM processor, GeForce GTX 670MX graphics, 8GB of memory, and 750GB hard drive, along with the comes-standards we discussed earlier.
