If the Wind U230, and its 12.1" display, was just a little too big for your netbook
needs, help is soon on the way. MSI
has today announced their newest notebook, the U230 Light. It's an interesting one, mostly because it resembles the original in so many ways, but the most obvious difference is the smaller (just barely) 11.6" LCD.
The new U230 Light contains AMD
's 2nd Generation Ultrathin Platform and a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. The machine weighs just 3.3lbs., and MSI claims that this one is "optimized for energy efficiency and delivers on-the-go computing with low power consumption and energy saving features that use approximately 60 percent less power and deliver twice the battery life of standard notebooks." Of course, as we have often seen in our own testing, actual battery life can vary wildly depending on how much you're using your laptop.
As for specifications, this machine is equipped with an AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, HDMI output, a VGA output, 1366x768 native resolution, ATI Radeon HD3200 GPU, a 250GB SATA hard drive, 1.3MP webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, three USB 2.0 ports and audio in/out. The U230 Light (MSRP $399.99) is currently available on Amazon.com and online and in stores at Office Depot.
