Logitech's Video Monitoring Comes To iPad

Logitech's Video Monitoring Comes To iPad

If you're one of those ultra-paranoid type, well, there may be no hope for you. But if you just need to keep a closer eye on things from your iPad, Logitech is here to help. The new Logitech Alert app for iPad allows iPad owners to remotely view and manage a Logitech Alert Digital Home Security setup, and was designed to be a true mobile extension of the Logitech Alert HD video security system.

Adding to the Logitech Alert family of DIY home security cameras and software, the Logitech Alert app for iPad is one of the first iPad apps developed strictly for tablet-based HD digital video surveillance. The app lets you view crisp, clear 720p HD video coupled with rich sound quality that’s captured by the user’s Logitech Alert cameras — including the Logitech Alert 750i Master System, the weatherproof Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master System and any Logitech Alert Add-On Camera — giving you the ability to see and hear what’s going on at home or the office even when you’re miles away.

As you might expect, this gives you anytime-live-video of whatever you're trying to monitor, so you can look forward to killing a lot of time with it. The app itself is free, and live monitoring is expected to be available in the U.S., Europe and Asia in the Apple App Store at no charge beginning in April. The Logitech Alert Web and Mobile Commander service, however, runs $79.99 per year. The Logitech Alert 750i Master System and the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master System, required for this to function, ranges from $300 to $350.

Does anyone know how the price on this compares to other monitoring systems?

I wonder how well the cameras work in low light... Other than pro level systems I have not seen anything that works well in low light situations.

Most of the home IP camera solutions don't work that well in low light, at least from what I've seen. You could add some motion sensing lights to the system to turn on a light near the camera when someone walked by.

Yeah they have had the camera systems out for this for a while. Nice to see them bringing it to the tablets as well as mobile hardware in general. As for low light that depends most on the lens. I would imagine though since thes are for surveillance type activity it would be decent. Of course you can also put a light in an area you want monitored as well for pretty cheap which would also fix that problem.

This is great! A tablet-based HD digital video surveillance...Every time I look up different types of home security systems they always have something newer on the market. Personally, I have my own bedroom with two other roommates in a 2 bedroom apartment so this would probably be pretty helpful when I'm away. Actually one of our roommates moved out last month and last weekend my other roommate (Bethany) and I were going to Vegas, just by luck our new roommate was moving in that day. Well, I'm one of those so-called paranoid people because the second we left our apartment in LA, I was worried she would trash the place or steal something from our bedrooms. Luckily, when we got back everything was just were we had left it which was good. I can't help but think how much more fun our trip would have been if I had a camera in my room...I mean, since I live in my own bedroom, there is no reason for her to be in there. My one concern is if I can afford it. As long as I know it's been tested and people are satisfied with the results, then I'll give it a try...Any suggestions?
