Logitech Revamps MX518 Gaming Mouse, Results In G400
If you look closely, you'll see that the overall design of the G400 is very similar to that of the MX518, and that's intentional. Logitech went out of their way to maintain the parts that people loved, while improving where necessary. They cranked up the 1800DPI sensor to a higher-resolution 3600DPI sensor, and of course, DPI adjustments can be made on the fly (to 400, 800, 1800, and now 3600 DPI) with no software required. The company also boosted the report rate from 125 to 1000 reports per second, which is said to be as fast as USB can communicate. The USB cable itself has been made thinner and 25% lighter, and the optional button programming software now enables users to tweak the functions further.
It'll retail for $49.99 and should ship in the U.S. on June 19; the rest of the world will see it in mid-July. Impulse buy, perhaps?

Looks like a solid offering and a worthy successor. I've owned a 518 and remember it being a great mouse. I eventually upgraded to a G5, but the 518 was still going strong after just under 2 yrs. I'm currently using the G500 and it's little brother here seems to offer plenty of features for the $. I actually like it's aesthetics better than my G500! |

I'm rocking the 518 as I type this. I've been super happy with it's performance and comfort level. The only downfall is that the rubberized coating is starting to peel off in places, but that is also with about 2 years of everyday use. |

I couldn't agree with you more about the coating, Drake McNasty and EHarler. I own a 518 as well and the coating peeled off like crazy. I am definitely going to replace it with the G400. |

I still have my 518 as well. It is always very responsive and still sturdy after all the gaming punishment I have put it through. I have to no need to upgrade at the moment but I would highly recommend it to those looking for a good gaming mouse. |

Long live the 518. I won mine at a raffle and I'm using it right now. Rubber has come off and I had some serious grime issues due to lack of cleaning. If the G400 is as good as the 518, it's well worth the buy. |

I have used this series ever since the MX510 came out and only bought the 518 because Win7 didn't support the 510. I would guess I have an easy 10,000 hours of use on the 518 and it still looks new. Its a workhorse of a mouse that outlives the support they provide. Now if they could just apply that to their headsets and I would be happy camper. |

I love my Logitech mouse personally. Though I certainly would not mind getting my hands on a SteelSeries or a Razer that would be sweet. I have been using the Logitech G5 since 2007 without any issues. |

You might call it extreme, but I use a MX 518 and my original is on Sarah's computer I think. I don't remember anymore to tell the truth needless to say I bought one at release. No rubber has peeled off anywhere except on the base, and it is not all gone. I can still crank it up or down when I am gaming and all functions work just fine. So I would say work horse is a bit of an understatement. I will buy one of these I imagine after it is released for a minute so they can get all the driver issues out of the way. As far as it goes I have several (actually a multitude) of mice around here, but I had the 510, and upgraded to the 518 when it dropped. They are sturdy and I have big hands so it works exceptionally well for me, so I imagine I will upgrade to this one and keep it until the next :) |
