Lightning Strikes MSI's N580GTX and R6970 Videocards

NASA tells us that "contrary to popular misconception, lightning often strikes the same place twice." This would certainly explain why MSI is launching not one, but TWO 'Lightning' videocards, the N580GTX Lightning and R6970 Lightning.

These cards play for different teams obviously, the N580GTX representing Nvidia and the R6970 entrenched in AMD's camp. But both cards sport many of the same features, including MSI's Power4 architectures with all kinds of component upgrades, like a PWM module that's twice as large as previous Lightning cards. Memory has its own indepedendent power supply using an 8-pin connector to better help with overclocking, and MSI says its next-generation Proadizer capacitor increases signal stability "by leaps and bounds."

Other features include MSI's Twin Frozr III cooling solution with double the amount of airflow compared to conventional fans, military class components, and Triple Overvoltage technology courtesy of MSI's Afterburner v2.1.0 overclocking utility.

No word yet on price or availability.

MSI really is pushing their military class components campaign. I am definitely in the Nvidia camp.

I second the Nvidia camp! I'm really digging msi lately. Their cooling solutions have been proving to be better than the competition and a lot of their cards have lower power consumption. I'm glad their propeller blade technology doesn't sound like b-52 though!!!!!

MSI makes some great video cards all the way around regarding the components they use on them. Of course I am also not in the Nvidia camp. I really prefer not to choose a specific side either way. Basically whoever has the most performance for the best price with the best components gets my business.

O dam, is this highlight and learn more button a plugin on HH or is it my browser? xD its pretty neat...

Now back on topic,

i am in the Navidia camp, probably won't switch over to amd anytime soon... MSI does real good with they products ;)

I have two cards with this Frozr cooler on them. One is a GTX-560Ti and the other is a low cost N430GT.

Both are very cool running and good performers too. MSI has it going on with these coolers. They ARE quiet.

While my other two cards (ASUS GTX-570 & XFX Radeon 6870 Black) seem to work well, I'm liking the design elements that are on the MSI design. Some of them even have a pure Copper Heatsink on them.

We've been waiting since 2010 for these things to come out, and now they are!

It's been a long wait, I sure hope they can get them out in a timely matter after this press release, you know how long their N480GTX lightning came out right?

Still, really excited!

MSI sure does make some top notch products, their little tweaks and perks in individual graphic card designs could be a game changer in Nvidia Vs. AMD's "Worlds Fastest Graphics Card" compeition if the implement this stuff in the GTX 590 and Radeon 6990

MSI is slowly starting to gain back my trust in their products. I used to buy their products all the time but stopped as their products begin to be cheaply built. With their new campaign with military quality parts they have become way better IMO.
