Lexar Intros 32GB microSDHC Card With Class 10 Speeds

Memory cards seem to be all the rage here in the early part of 2011. We've got faster SD cards coming our way, a 128GB CompactFlash Extreme Pro card from SanDisk, and now, a massive Class 10 microSDHC card from Lexar. With smartphone use on the rise, particularly those with Android on-board, the demand for microSDHC cards is also going up. Customers who opt for an Android phone are most likely looking for a microSDHC card as a complement, as many don't come with internal storage.

So if you've got a massive media library that you'd like to carry around with you, this Lexar 32GB microSDHC card is probably looking really attractive. There are two major selling points here. First, it's 32GB in size, which is vast no matter how you slice it. Secondly, it's a Class 10 card, which means transfers are hasty. Many users with Class 2 cards have experienced lots of slowdowns on their cards, with read/write rates being much slower than a modern day smartphone should have.

This particular card offers a minimum sustained write speed of 10MB/sec and a read speed of around 20MB/sec, which far outpaces most of the competition. At $149.99, it's not a cheap accessory, but it's probably worthwhile if your media library is overflowing out of your existing card.

I have a class 10 16GiB microSD card in my EVO and I had a noticeable speed increase after the switch from the stock class 2 card. Maybe someday I'll make the jump up to a 32GiB card, but most likely not until speeds go up higher than class 10 and prices come down.
