Lexar 128GB Echo SE USB Flash Drives Keeps Things Backed Up

The race to "bigger" is never-ending in the storage department, even when we're talking about USB flash drives. Recently, USB drives have hit somewhat of a ceiling, with 256GB being the largest that is advertised to consumers. But Lexar has a better idea. Rather than pushing things even larger at price points that no average person could afford, they have tweaked their Echo SE line to create an entirely new kind of product.

The 128GB Echo SE looks like a standard USB flash drive, but it's actually far more than that. The device is an auto-backup drive that begins to back up your hard drive as soon as you plug it into your computer. This is particularly useful for those with 120GB or smaller SSDs, or in netbooks with 120GB or less hard drives. Quite a few of the cheaper, lower-end notebooks have hard drives smaller than 128GB, and this basically allows users to back up their entire HDD without thinking about it. Just leave the drive plugged in, and everything's backed up. Simple!

The only thing that isn't so simple is figuring out how to come up with the $349.99 that it will cost you.

Write's at 10MB/sec in this day and age? No thanks.

This size of a drive should do at least 30MB/sec writes. It would take a while to back up even 20GB worth of data. Not to mention, $350 for 128GB? At that price I would expect it to be somewhat rugged (or more so).

Although this would be great for James Bond - type people. Imagine what could be stolen.

WOW! $350!!! So not worth it!

Maybe if you're a spy and you are trying to steal some information lol

Just plug it in and disappear into the shadows.... recover it later... muahahaha!

Not a bad little drive, but fr $350 you could get a pretty nice 128 GB mechanical drive and case, plus have enough left over for water ice.

Mmm, water ice.

I saw 1.5 TB HDD's on newegg for 78.00 the other day. One of those in an enclosure and using any free backup software from the web would save enough to have Strawberry Daiquiri Water Ice. Mmm,..........
