Lenovo Introduces First 3D Laptop: IdeaPad Y560d With Core i7

It's a fact of life at this point: you might as well embrace the 3D assault, because it's coming at you whether you like it or not. 3D has managed to overtake the entire consumer electronics industry, and PC vendors are looking to make sure they don't miss any golden opportunities. 3D all-in-one PCs have already been announced by a number of companies, and NVIDIA has already debuted a "3D PC" category for use with their 3D Vision products.

Now, Lenovo is bringing 3D capabilities to the IdeaPad line, a smart choice given how strange it would be to see a 3D ThinkPad. The IdeaPad Y560d is the company's first 3D notebook, but judging by the popularity of 3D, we doubt it'll be the last. The "d" at the end there is the sign that this one has more depth than the other guys, and it features the TriDef 3D technology that includes a 3D screen, software and glasses.

Lenovo says that the TriDef solution also allows users to experience 3D from standard 2D photos/videos, and it also includes the Enhanced Experience RapidDrive technology, which seamlessly combines SSD and HDD storage solutions to reportedly deliver even faster Windows 7 boot-up times and significantly improve application performance. The company claims that this certification allows Windows 7 to boot-up 66% faster, and with up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and 750GB of HDD space, you shouldn't have to soon worry about memory and storage limits.

This machine is also equipped with JBL speakers, a Core i7 CPU, an ATI Radeon HD 5730 (1GB) GPU and switchable graphics for extending battery life when you don't need the power of a discrete chip. It even has an optional Blu-ray drive, an HDMI output and SlideNav, an intelligent touch-sensitive slide bar application for easy desktop navigation. Finally, there's 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, all wrapped into a package that starts at just under $1200.
