Leaked Photos Show Android-Based Nikon CoolPix S800C Smart Camera
The CoolPix S800 (or S800c) will likely feature 25-250mm lens, built-in GPS and WiFi, a 3.5-inch display, Android 2.3, and the ability to run Google Play apps. It appears from the photos that there will be at least two different models, and they’ll be available in black or white finishes.
As you can see from the images, the front of these devices is unmistakably a camera, but the back bears more resemblance to a smartphone. In reality, it’s probably a nice hybrid of both; the camera lenses and mechanics should be far and above what you normally expect on a phone, but the Android (and Google Play Store) connection will ostensibly enable manufacturers to create apps as UIs, with regular updates to fix bugs or add functionality. One can also imagine the uses for any number of other image-related Android apps used directly on a camera.
An official announcement from Nikon is expected around August 22nd.

That is a seriously cool camera. I thought it would just be another dumb handheld camera, cheap and second rate. However this could be a huge advance in camera's and phones. In the last several years camera sales, especially portable and low end camera's, have been decimated by the rise in quality and wide range acceptance of smartphones. This camera looks like a smart phone but obviously has much better quality than any smartphone. However this camera runs the android OS, its a simple step to take this incredibly new camera design and implement it into the new smartphones soon to come out. |

You would have to change quite a bit about that camera to make it into any kind of smartphone. Also, you'd have to slim it down a whole lot before anyone would consider putting into a phone |

People who want a good camera with the ability to use 3G/4G to send the results someplace would be perfectly happy to have that as a phone. I expect to see the CoolPix phone before Christmas, actually. |

...I hate to be that guy, but how does that look like a smart phone?:D And I think you're implementation might be slightly trickier than that. There's a reason cameras in phones are only so nice. If you had a phone with a quality camera it could seriously add some bulk. I'd personally rather have a slimmer phone than one that could take gorgeous pictures. That's what cameras are for.:p |

Camera's have always been somewhat of a niche product. Everyone gets one eventually but sheerly being able to take pictures hasn't been a tremendous selling point ever since the popularity of Smartphones. If you have the quality of a full size camera it could catch on as irrationally as beany babes did. The implementation of a receiver and call system onto an object roughly the same size, as a phone that already run the Android OS doesn't seem very difficult. |

I like it and it also makes sense. The location tagging, apps, and photo software etc would be real useful in a point and click. |
