"Since our core business is Internet investments, we really pursued the purchase of the original domain name, Symbolics.com. For us to own the first domain is very special to our company, and we feel blessed for having the ability to obtain this unique property. On March 15, 2010, Symbolics.com will celebrate its 25th year. This is a special milestone for all of us. The Internet has changed the face of business and entertainment, and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the domain that started it all is very special."

I remember looking at the first 100 registered domains a while back and its all tech companies until like 30ish McDonalds was super early in the internet game. |
^Yeah. I was excited when I saw Stargate at 25, but it apparently is a tech company also, though recently renamed Latisys. |
Very interesting. The majority of the top 25 seems to be all tech companies. I am trying to find a domain name that I can use for a small business. I've checked out this site( domains ) and was curious if anyone had any advice on picking a domain? |
Well here's the advice, use your companies name. And if the name is taken then use the name of the companies profession of the end ("computers" for example) or just use "company" or "corp" at the end. It's very simple actually. And yes, I am surprised that symbolics.com is the earliest registered domain name. I thought it would be something very obvious. |
Well, I was obviously born 6 years or so after the internet was, so I can't really say I have a firm grasp on what the interwebs were like back then. It is really interesting to see these big names under the symbolics domain name though. It seems like they invested in the internet with full knowledge of what would happen. AT&T, XEROX, Hewlett Packard, Suncom, Intel, STARGATE (haha). All big names. |
