OpenOffice supports many of the MS Office formats, but (currently) has some incompatibilities with the very latest versions. Embed a video in a Powerpoint 2007 presentation and then open it in Impress to see what I mean. That said, I *love* OpenOffice and prefer it. I think the real benefit here is the IBM name. Many companies that would not dream of switching to OpenOffice would potentially try Symphony - because they already have business relationships with IBM. |

I would second 3vi1's opinion. IBM has lots of brand value and MS has some serious competition now, that too Symphony being free.:) |
