If you're a person who wants to fool with something inside your system yourself, you're probably not an Apple customer. The money this saves Apple on warranty service by preventing the uninitiated from screwing around with the insides of their devices and breaking them is probably proportionally greater than the headache it causes for people who know what they're doing. I doubt it would slow us down much. That said, I won't buy a device that locks out the owner (the same reason I hate DRM and prefer open-source solutions). |

Isn't there a law that makes this kind of thing illegal? Wouldn't this fall under the same rule that requires the automobile industry to make available to the public/ independent repair shops the tools needed to work on their cars and trucks. Not saying that these tools are cheap, but they are available for purchase. |

I'm VERY disappointed! I have an ipod touch, a 2nd gen 8gb model. The home button doesnt respond anymore. Some googling around, lots of youtube videos and tutorials, finally mustered up the courage to open up the device and replace the damn button. If i am to receive (god forbid purchase) an apple product with proprietary screws... what do i do to fix it after my warranty is expired? the hell i'm going to pay 100$ for apple to fix it a button that costs them pennies. |
