Hercules eCAFE EC-1000W Netbook To Ship With Windows 7
Windows 7 is still over a month away from shipping, but already
Hercules is preparing to ship its next netbook with that very OS loaded
on. Rather than introducing a new machine with Windows XP at this
point, the company is instead introducing a new one with Windows 7
Starter for shipment next month. Believe it or not, this isn't the
first small notebook from Hercules, which generally sticks to desktop
machines.
The eCAFE EC-1000W will boast a rather predictable slate of specifications (aside from Win7, of course), with a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor powering the rig and a roomy 250GB hard drive providing the storage. There's also 1GB of memory, a 10.1" LCD (1024x600 resolution), a chiclet keyboard, 6-cell battery, Wi-Fi, 50GB of web-accessible storage, headphone output, microphone input, a VGA port and integrated Ethernet.
As you can tell, the machine is fancied up a bit compared to most other netbooks, but we're not quite sure the unique design alone justifies the $399 starting price. Though, the company is throwing in a hand-crafted software suite that provides easy access to email, updates, webcam, and Open Office.
