Hackers Assault Epilepsy Patients via Computer
Internet griefers descended on an epilepsy support message board last weekend and used JavaScript code and flashing computer animation to trigger migraine headaches and seizures in some users.
The nonprofit Epilepsy Foundation, which runs the forum, briefly closed the site Sunday to purge the offending messages and to boost security.
"We are seeing people affected," says Ken Lowenberg, senior director of web and print publishing at the Epilepsy Foundation. "It's fortunately only a handful. It's possible that people are just not reporting yet -- people affected by it may not be coming back to the forum so fast."
The forums have been restored. It should be noted that the U.K.'s version of the EFA, the National Society of Epilepsy (NSE) faced an identical attack last weekend.

It probably just started off as some crude joke -- then some "joe" had a few and decided "haha I am going to go ahead and go through with it!" Poor people........we should just impose Darwin-ism on all of society; only the most fit shall survive!! |

There are several 'spam' banners that also flash rapidly from green to black and forth,and that can affect epilepsy too.I'm reffering to those 'You are a winner' banners |

It takes a pretty pathetic person to do something like this. They really need to get a life if they get their entertainment out of attacking people with disabilities.

That's not just in bad taste... that's evil. Their goal is to cause people to have seizures, by targetting people looking for help about the illness. I really do hope they get found and arrested. |

its beyond mean.. It's intentionally done to cause severe harm to someone and if extreme enough death.. I guarantee if it was someone related to them whos seen someone have a seizure so severe they bite their tongue in half or break their own back.. they wouldnt of done this so none shalant. |

I agree, seizures are not something to laugh at. My girlfriend has epilepsy, and I would beat a person to death if they purposely caused her to have a seizure. |

Sorry Savage, but although opinions can't be wrong, I have to say it's not funny. Seizures can be far too serious for this to be funny. |
