HP's Chief Strategy Officer Leaving Next Month, No Plans To Replace Him

Does HP really need a chief strategy officer? Hopefully not, because there aren't any plans to replace the current one once he leaves next month. HP has gone through an insane amount of turmoil over the past two years, with Mark Hurd getting the boot, then Leo, then webOS. What's next? Well, Shane Robison, a guy who seemed in favor of webOS sticking around even after Leo decided to kill the consumer side, is about to bolt.

HP today announced Shane Robison will retire as executive vice president and chief strategy and technology officer effective Nov. 1. Robison, an 11-year HP veteran, also served as a member of the company's Executive Council. In his role, he was responsible for shaping HP's corporate strategy and technology agenda. He was instrumental in steering the company's multibillion-dollar research and development investment and has led many of the company's largest merger and acquisition activities. HP also announced that, in an effort to drive strategy, research and development closer to the company's businesses, it will not be replacing the role of chief strategy and technology officer.

Hard to say if these wheels were already in motion prior to Leo leaving, but it certainly doesn't give us any great hope that webOS has a future anywhere. And that's a shame.

Who knows what HP is really up to anymore? Everything's a weird, conflicting, grinding mess with them.

I would be freaking out if I had any large amount of their stock.
