HP Forms a Mobile Division as It Readies Another Run at Tablets
An internal memory by HP's Todd Bradley slithered its way online, and it mentions the creation of a Mobility business unit that will be run by Alberto Torres, former Executive Vice President of Nokia. He will report directly to Bradley.
HP is creating a Mobile division, presumably to help prevent past mistakes it made in the tablet space (see TouchPad, HP)
"Our new Mobility Global Business Unit initially will focus on consumer tablets and will expand to additional segments and categories where we believe we can offer differentiated value to our customers," Bradley wrote. "Our existing notebook teams, including our soon-to-be-launched commercial tablet, will remain within the PC GBU under James Mouton at this time."
All this is happening relatively quickly. Alberto's start date is September 3, so it appears HP is ready to hit the ground running, perhaps with an expanded lineup of Windows 8 based tablets beyond what it was already planning.

I have the tablet in the picture and the os it comes with is bad. It would probably would of sold better if they made a android tablet. Atm i have cm9 installed and it makes the tablet much better. |

I hope they succeed, I really do. Every manufacturer that comes to market is going to continue to drive innovation in the tablet space; so long as Apple doesn't sue them. |

More tablets are definitely good for competition, i just hope that HP isnt forced into another firesale. |

Normally I'd respect persistence. Not for HP. Not now. You have a hard enough time making computers and your last attempt at a tablet was dismal. Just drop it. |

You seem pretty bent on hating a high quality company that was essentially the very first computer maker in silicon valley, whats with the hate? HP is like the father of all computers don't you think that they deserve more respect? What computer company do you throw your money at? |

Well heres all i see.... another lawsuit from apple. But i love hp. The best monitor hpzr30w. But i hope they do good. Since they make an all in one platform with touch screen thats *** a bigass smartphone just ve to tweak it a little bit |

Rofl, I've yet to see an HP computer with hardware as high-quality and durable as what you'd find in a machine made by Dell, Asus, Apple, even Lenovo. Every HP I've owned (or my family has owned) has had a puny lifespan. Just because something came first doesn't make it the best.:p But hey, to each his own. Dell, Asus, or Apple (for iOS products). |
