Sorry to disappoint but I'm told that there are no plans to change this for option 2. The Google Voice number is not a mobile number and is relegated to landline rating rules. This is a reason to leverage the Sprint wireless number as your primary number (option 1).It seems backwards, however. Porting your Sprint number to GV means that if you've already been giving out your GV number to folks, that means that you'll have to give out still another number. It sort of (more than sort of) defeats the purpose of GV.

Ouch indeed First few paragraphs made me so confused lol, only understand the second half :P. So from the second last paragraph, is sprint trying to fix this? |

There are other apps you can use in conjunction with Google Voice to use it absolutely free. I have two Android phones with two separate Google accounts...one on TMobile, and the other with no carrier (just wifi). Both have Google Voice numbers. Both have the Google Voice app installed. Both have the GrooveIP app installed. GrooveIP allows you to have incoming/outgoing phone calls and text messages go through the Google Voice app and send as data. It can still use the native dialer and messaging apps...so you dont have to use GrooveIPs dialer or Google Voice's messaging. However sending texts through the native messaging app only works with a real plan...not wifi only...although you can still send text messages through the Google Voice app itself (but no picture messaging). But the fact I can make and receive calls and text messages using wifi absolutely free is proof enough. All in all...with these two apps, all you really need is unlimited texts (for picture messaging) and unlimited data...no minutes needed...just use Google Voice. *GrooveIP is a paid app* |
