My, how the gaming
notebooks have trimmed down as of late. Razer’s Blade
and MSI’s GS70
proved that you can have a solid portable gaming machine that’s as thin as any notebook, and newcomer Aorus has its own tricked-out slimmy, too, with the upcoming X7.
Aorus is a new player in the space, and the flagship device, the Aorus X7, is a 17.3-inch gaming notebook that boasts a dual-SLI NVIDIA
GeForce GTX 765M (4GB) setup wrapped in a chassis that measures just 0.9 inches. The machines also weighs only 6.39lbs, which isn’t bad for a gaming notebook.
The 1920x1080 display offers an 8ms response time, and the notebook features NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround technology for multiple display support. The backlit keyboard has five dedicated macro keys and features anti-ghosting. There’s also Killer LAN and 802.11ac on board, as well as fan control and macro controls.
Under the hood rumbles an Intel Core i7-4700HQ (2.4-3.4GHz) processor, up to 8GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, and multiple storage options including an a 128GB or 256GB mSATA and up to 1TB 5400rpm HDD. Ports include three USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, HDMI, D-sub, Ethernet, surround port, mini-DisplayPort, and SD card reader, mic-in, and headphone out (S/PDIF), and there’s a 1.3MP webcam.
The Aorus X7 has accessories built using the same design language, including a separate mechanical keyboard (Thunder K7), gaming mouse (Thunder M7), and three gaming headsets.
