GSM Phone Technology Turns 20: Mobile Callers Show Their Thanks

It may be a holiday weekend, but Americans should be celebrating more than the 4th this weekend. They should also be celebrating the technology that helps them make every single mobile call this weekend. Recently, GSM technology turned 20 years old, which is wild. 20 years! GSM is a constantly evolving technology that has turned into the basis of what T-Mobile and AT&T use today in the States, and it's obviously helped change the future of telecommunications. We owe a lot to a single phone call on July 1, 1991, with Finnish Prime Minister Harri Holkeri made the world’s first GSM call, using Nokia equipment.

So, now that we have you thinking back... when was your first mobile call? And who was it to? And did you use GSM, or that archrival CDMA?
