The GIGABYTE GA-EG45M-DS2H supports the powerful and energy efficient Intel 45nm Core2 Quad processors and features the new Intel G45 chipset. GIGABYTE's Dynamic Energy Saver (DES) has once again proven itself as the industry leading energy saving technology with newly introduced Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced. Featuring improved algorithms that provide a more accurate power saving calculation, GIGABYTE Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced provides better energy saving capabilities and enhanced system performance. GIGABYTE Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced is the world’s only motherboard energy saving technology with hardware-based Dynamic 4-Gear Switching. With support for VRD 11.1, GIGABYTE’s DES Advanced allows the motherboard to switch to 1 Gear phase switching during idle, allowing for a dramatic increase in power savings.

Setting a New standard for Motherboard Security

GIGABTE’s Ultra TPM provides an added layer of security by allowing users to store their digital signature key on a USB thumb drive, so that when they step away from their system, they can take the key with them, locking up their data and preventing unauthorized access while they are away. When making the portable user key, GIGABYTE’s Ultra TPM auto deletes the user key in the hard drive, ensuring the maximum level of data protection.

Ultra Durable 2 Technology
The GIGABYTE GA-EG45M-DS2H utilizes all Solid, Lower ESR Capacitors from leading Japanese manufacturers, which provide enhanced system stability and longer component lifespan. In addition, the GA-EG45M-DS2H is equipped with Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs, delivering lower power consumption during the switching process, resulting in faster switching with less heat generation. I always liked Gigabyte's dual BIOS boards -- it just makes sense for enthusiasts that enjoy OCing. I would LOVE to find a <$90 mobo thats S775 for my rig that is just laying around....this seems to be a titch over that however Sad

The onboard audio sounds good on paper. Any chance of a review? I too have been a long time fan of Gigabyte boards. Always rock solid stable and never an issue nor a DOA to be seen.

I'm not an overclocker, but I have heard in the past(read years ago) that their boards weren't the best overclockers. Any change in that?

They are very very stable boards out of the box -- mediocre OCers and have gotten better recently with the surge in seemingly everyone wanting to OC.

Best OC boards are probably Abit and DFI........after this its really a toss up between ASUS and Gigabyte (possibly eVga recently also)

Thanks Ice. I've found Gigabyte to be rock solid out of the bax as well. The dual BIOS even saved my bacon once when I lost power in the middle of flashing it for a customer.

Deal breaker; not only is the G45 late into the game (G35 couldn't match the 780G and 8200; the G45 can't seem to match them either still...1100 3Dmark, 780G = 1500+ points) but also priced higher because .. it is the only Intel supported chipset for matxs? I would've loved to build a system revolving around an Intel CPU but their high prices have become a massive turn off for me. The 780G (I have the Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H) and 8200 are AMD based, but at least they're affordable - the 780G version and G45 are almost identical in features but have at least a $30-40 gap in price. For now albeit relunctantly I'll stick with my 780G and Phenom 9600 until Intel decides to get off its high horse and price its things competivitely. With the advent of the 790GX chip I have a pretty good feeling that this newly released chip will get squashed again (not that it hasn't already been - 790GX = 2000 3Dmark).
