Following Backlash, Verizon Issues Statement Regarding Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans
In a statement emailed to The New York Times, a VZW spokesperson clarified that "Customers will not be automatically moved to new shared data plans. If a 3G or 4G smartphone customer is on an unlimited plan now and they do not want to change their plan, they will not have to do so."
Verizon Wireless customers grandfathered into an unlimited data plan are welcome to keep their plan when upgrading to a new phone, but they'll have to pay full price.
That's a far better scenario than what was being reported, which is that grandfathered users would be given the boot. So, what exactly is VZW doing, then? According to the email, VZW is scrapping unlimited data plans once it rolls out shared data plans later this summer. That means "Unlimited data plans will no longer be available to customers when purchasing handsets at discounted pricing."
In other words, grandfathered users are free to stick with their unlimited data plans, but in doing so, they won't be allowed to upgrade to a newer phone at a subsidized price. They can still purchase a new phone and keep their unlimited data plan, however they'll have to pay full price for the handset, which is typically several hundred dollars more than upgrade pricing.
"The same pricing and policies will be applied to all 3G and 4G LTE smartphones," VZW added.

If you use a lot of data you bet it will be far cheaper to keep your unlimited data plan and pay full price for the handsets. Plus if you pay full price you don't get stuck in a contract. It will be interesting to see what Google does with them planning on selling the hardware. The phones are not likely to be $650 dollars from Google like they would be from VZW. |

I don't know about that,........they said that Google Chrome Laptops would be cheaper too. But they're expensive as ~Hail~ aren't they? I think that this is just an attempt at damage control while they still disrespect their customer base with crapolla rules. Don't forget that wireless companies post the highest profits of almost any companies on earth. All of them make many BILLIONS of dollars every year. They could afford to make it less expensive for us to play, but they know that we want it and we want it bad, so they're sticking it to us. Uncle Sam is no help either, he's bought off. |

But see heres my problem. Yes i love my 4glte even if you buy a phone full retail from verizon your still paying all the stupid taxes,fees, hidden fees, and really i believe your probably still paying a subsidized price on your bill even though you havent upgraded. So your still paying out so much more in the long run. Im really thinking hard about going prepaid with my unlocked samsung galaxy note or hacking my droid bionic to work on att/tmobile bands. |

AJM, When you upgrade via Verizon, the phone is supposedly discounted, but the newly agreeded upon 2 year contract, ensures they get the full price for their phone, even if it spans across 2 years *lol* |
