Enemy Territory Quake Wars Shots On GeForce 8800

What does id's new team-based combat shooter look like at high res with 4X AA and all the eye candy turned up? A little like this...

There's no question about it, the game gives BattleField 2 and 2142 a run for their money. The graphics are a far cry (no pun intended) from BF 2142 and the color palette alone makes things look a lot more realistic and well... colorful. Carmack's new MegaTexture technology really shines in the outdoor environments, as you can see in these shots. Also, we should note, these captures were taken at 2560X1600 res with 4X AA and 16X aniso filtering turned on. We shrank down the full-sized shots to 1024 res here, just so they fit on the average-sized screen for our readers. However, at full HD res, the game was completely playable on a single GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card and a Core 2 E6750 dual core processor.

If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, go now. It's tons of "get-some" fun.

I played the Beta. Sure it's got beautiful graphics, but in battle, you can't see them behind all the junk they have on the screen. I am used to HUDs and like them a lot (am working on building one for my car) but the HUD in this game is just ridiculous! Also, the sound effects were absolutely miserable. Quite possibly the worst I've heard since Dark Reign. I haven't tried the demo yet, and I can only pray that the sounds in the Beta were working sound effects and not the final sounds to be included.

Agreed Lev, the HUD is way too cluttered. Hopefully they'll work on that for future releases.

Actually, it's not just the HUD that detracts from the graphics. You can turn off much of the clutter, though those annoying little icons over everyone's head stay. The real problem I had with it is that everything is too fast. You run too fast, vehicles drive and turn to fast, and your enemies are bouncing all over the place. It just seems like an arcade game, not a war. And the overly rapid pace just makes it difficult to admire the beautiful graphics.
Granted, I prefer realistic shooters, but the beauty of the animations, textures, and models all scream to be part of a realistic war game, but aren't. I really hope someone makes a realism mod for this ASAP. It could totally redeem the game the way the PR mod did for BF2.
I agree.
Chalk it up to our insatiable hunger for instant gratification.

BTW: I will own you all at this game.
