Duke Nukem Forever Gets a Release Date

Duke Nukem Forever Gets a Release Date

As hard as it might be to believe, forever is nearly here. Duke Nukem Forever, the long-awaited an long-delayed sequel to Duke Nukem 3D has a launch date: May 3.

Duke Nukem Forever was once the property of 3D Realms. However, that company folded in 2009, and it seemed like Duke Nuke Forever was going to be renamed Duke Nukem never. Instead, the franchise was picked up by Take-Two Interactive ("Grand Theft Auto" franchise), as the publisher, and Gearbox Software ("Brothers in Arms") as the developer.

Of course, as one might have expected, those two and 3D Realms fought over who truly owned Duke Nukem. That was eventually settled, and now, with a press release being issued and pre-orders being taken, it seems we are truly on the way. Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K said:
“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here. May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”
The game will include both online multiplayer and single-player modes. Those looking for a demo version of the game will have to spend some money. You first must join the Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club, and to do that you need the membership certificate which is included within the Borderlands Game of the Year edition (PC, Xbox 360, PS3).

Duke Nukem Forever can be pre-ordered (PC, Xbox 360, PS3). Both Borderlands and Duke Nukem Forever are rated M for Mature by the ESRB.  Fill up your wallets: the wise-cracking, macho Duke Nukem is set to return.

Woah man... this has been, literally, years in the making... but why do i have a feeling its not going to be as good as hyped. Just what my opinion, and hey, usualy, i'm always wrong.

However, good or bad it is, I'm just happy to see it is getting out there. I thought I would never live to see the day!

After all this wait, I don't want to like this.

But after seeing the trailer... I kind of do.

This is going to make Jack Thompson's head explode.

Wow; we have been hearing it as well as waiting for it for how long now? As 3vi1 said though "after all this wait, I don't want to like this." After seeing that trailer I am at the least considering buying it. It also makes you wonder if "DOOM" might show it's face again. No it did not have the cult following in a literal sense, but every one played it for hours, and I mean every one. So as a retro game I could see it for sure.

Speaking of Doom, I can't wait to Play Rage built on the id tech 5 engine. I think there will be a Doom 4 if I'm not mistaken. Never played a DN game, but this looks BEAST!

There's a couple of great one-liners in that trailer...

"Damn it! Why do they always take the hot ones!"

"Right in the jewels!"

"Hell! I'd still hit it!"

HAHAHA!

My thoughts exactly Marco. I usually hate what Duke says... as he's a pale rip-off of Ash from Evil Dead. But, those lines were pretty good.

"It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye!"

This is one that I'll buy right away, unless my *favorite website* gives away copies and I get one of them.

Not sure about this game. I Want to play this game, but with such a long wait the game might be recked by expectations being to big. Just going to have to wait and see how it turns out.

It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum. Can't wait... can't believe it's going to see the light of day... Can't let my kid play it until he's at least 18, that would be just wrong, from what I see of the trailer. HA!

Indifferent  I imagine it will have parental controls built-in for you to tone it down a little. But it will probably be a Dad's game anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release it as two versions, or sell it online-only.

If they try to put it in stores, I'll bet Jack will set up a sting where he has a 17yr old buy the game and then has the cashier arrested by the police for selling a game with nudity to someone under 18. FOX will give him airtime again and the circus will start.

Stores then aren't going to want to touch the full uncensored version with a 10ft dancing pole - which makes me think there might be a 'lesser-M' version for stores that only shows pixelated strippers (ala The Sims), and loses some dialog.

its is the same music and it kind of fits both games. Its also in the Movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World I think. Its Invaders Must Die by Prodigy.

I happen to think the ESRB rating image from the trailer is pure win.

Hhahaha, the comments are Hillarious. I think your right, i'll pick this up for the 360 8 months after the release (when the prices fall down and i can pick up a used copy). I hope the campaign isnt too intense.
