Dr. Dre Tag Teams With HP For Limited Edition ENVY 15 Notebok

Dr. Dre Tag Teams With HP For Limited Edition ENVY 15 Notebok

With HP's dedicated Voodoo PC line pretty much in the tank (or just phased out), it looks like Dr. Dre will be stepping in to fill the superstar void. Both Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine have jointly worked with HP in order to issue the HP Beats Limited Edition notebook, which is little more than a highly styled ENVY 15 with a thing for multimedia.

The HP ENVY 15 Beats limited edition notebook features a sleek, piano black, high-gloss finish and signature Beats design as found in the "Beats by Dr. Dre" line of headphones, and while specifics are scant, we're told that the audio capabilities on this notebook far exceeds those found on rivals. As expected, the machine comes with something a little extra that only music-heads will love: Native Instruments’ Traktor LE software and Audio 2 DJ.

As for specs, you'll get a 15" notebook starting at 5.19lbs and measuring 1" thick. Inside, there's an Intel Core i7 mobile CPU, an HP BrightView LCD, Nightvision VGA webcam, an optional Slim Fit Extended-Life Notebook Battery (giving users up to seven hours of battery life), and an external optical drive.

HP has also launched the official machine website, and if you just has to know, it's expected to be available in the United States on October 22 with a starting price of $2,299. Ouch!

Ehhh, pass. Between this and the Armani phone, non-tech celebrities should stick to their day jobs.

Oh, Thank God! I had been holding off on buying a notebook until I could find one endorsed by a respected technical expert who's just as price vs. power conscientious as myself.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to run out and buy those $150 Monster Cable ear-buds he endorses.

What would I give to be a fly on the wall during the executive meeting that brainstormed this idea! It probably went something like this:

HP Exec 1: We need to find a way to market to today's youth. With their hipping and the hopping, something more hip than Apple.

HP Exec 2: What about Rap music? The teenagers love the Rap. They will blindly purchase whatever Rappers endorse.

HP Exec 1: Good idea. Lets get Two-pack.

HP Exec 2: Tupac is dead. He died more than 10 years ago.

HP Exec 1: Oh? Errr...who else was good back then?

HP Exec 2: Dr Dre.

HP Exec 1: Good. Lets sign him up for a $2 million dollar deal. Then we can recuperate the money by overcharging kids for this laptop. Also lets make a logo that looks similar to Target's and stamp it on the back.

LOL...You're killing me!

>> Lets get Two-pack...

ROFLMFAO. That was great.

This is ridiculous, but the ever knowledgeable consumer who wants to be uber cool, and of course has money to burn will buy it. For that amount of money I could go to AVA and build one that would outperform it probably by at least 35% in 15 minutes, and for less money.

What I find most interesting is that the demographics of "people who have the gall to push enormously overpriced laptops" and "people who have the gall to call themselves doctor after barely graduating(?) high school" overlap 100% here.

Someone tell HP we're in a recession and that eliminating overpriced celebrity endorsement deals would be a hell of a lot more effective than the pay cuts they've instead given their employees.

Here Here!

There is a marked emphasis in American culture for glorifying athletes, singers, movie stars, and other untalented celebrities (enter Paris Hilton). It's no wonder many students grow up cynical about education.

they'll do ANYTHING to sell product. Whatever they're paying this guy is being passed onto the consumer too. It's just another reason to avoid the brand.

Also, the "Limited Edition" badge is just a cheap way to jack the price up a little more. This seems to work with SUV's too.

But he's a Doctor!

Yes, but not the kind moms want their daughters married off to. Smile

He's only a doctor if PhD means "Pimpin' Hardware Devices".

hey guys i have bin coming to this site for over a year now and this is actually my second time adding a post, i never thought that i would see 3vi1 being racist or jealous if not racist of another person, r you saying that colplay for eg. or any white artist can use doctor in their alias bcuz they graduated from high school?, if so your definitely racist. an entertainer or musical artist i should say have the right to use anything or any name as apart of their alias regardless if they graduated from high school or not, buba sparxx, eminem to name a few

Racist?  Are you high?   I can only assume you say that because of the "pimpin" comment, and you are under the misconception that "pimps" have to be of a certain race.  I assure you it was not meant that way.

Jealous?  Sure!  That guys a millionaire!  That doesn't mean he knows as much as anyone here about computers.

And I only mentioned the Dr. thing because many people really do believe he has a degree, and infer higher education, when the guy never went to college.

I don't really have any problem with him, except that I feel his endorsement in this area is purely for money, means nothing, and at best might mislead people (netbooks aren't great audio machines!).  It was Mark Mothersbaugh, Thomas Dolby or someone that's got much more clout in computers and music, I'd actually pay attention to their message.

the thing is during my time on this site I've known you as someone who makes some very good points, I'm sorry it seems i took it the wrong way, i look up to the dude what can i say + i love to building rhythms when I'm not at work our building a PC, and every company in the world to date is in for the money and with some like dre on there side they afto charge a premium to get back their money, one of his beats is like 250k going up so its to be expected

Note : I know of white pimps\other colors so this misconception that "pimps" have to be of a certain race never came to my mind

Is that comment you quoted above what you think is racist? I don't follow at all.

It's well documented in his biographies that "Dr." Dre had to change high-schools due to poor grades. I couldn't find any evidence on the web that he actually graduated - thus the question mark after "graduated".

yeah it was and i didn't copy your quote correctly but the part i should have used was when you said ( people who have the gall to call themselves doctor after barely graduating(?) high school) i see the question sign meaning your unsure if he did,

but to me its just one of those things you would think but just not say, especially when you never know who might be reading stuffs you say almost everyday, i use legitreviews and HHH everyday and thats i said i never thought i would see you say something like that,

It seems Ive made a mistake and i do apologize sorry if i got you wrong.but beware of what other people perceive from your statements kool.

Qs. Nate will you guys ever do a review on an ASROCK board ? they are the child company of the great ASUS as where the AS come from in there name,I'm really interested in the asrock x58 extreme, newegg peeps give it some points but i need to see an official review if possible.

Sorry again 3vi1 or should i say Evil LOL.

No worries. Just glad we got that cleared up. :)

I'm glad this little misunderstanding has been cleared up and buried. In the short time I've known 3vi1, he's a stand up guy with keen insight, and very opinionated like the rest of us. Because if you're not passionate about your opinions, why would you spend hours arguing on some random tech site on the internet? This cartoons sums it up best:

It is possible to attack Dr. Dre without attacking blacks. Just like it's possible to attack Osama Bin Laden without targeting every Arab/Muslim out there.

I haven't experienced/witnessed much racism in most of America, though there are regions in the South and Northwest that are still a little closed off. Europe is a different story, yeesh! Do you know of any European country that has had a minority president (I'm not talking just about blacks, but Arabs and Asians as well)?

Oh man LOL, love the cartoon Gibbersome that's hilarious.
