Thanks to the Kindle Development Kit (KDK), the Kindle is no longer limited to just eBooks. Now, you'll be able to play games on the device as well. Developers recently released two new Kindle-ready games. Both games are in line with what you'd expect would go over well with Kindle's book-loving users: word scramble games. What's more, both of these Kindle-friendly games are free.
Every Word is a word scramble game where you're shown six or seven scrambled letters. The goal is to form as many words as possible using those letters. The more words you find, the more points you'll score.
The other game, called Shuffled Row, is more similar to Scrabble. In this game, you'll see 60 lettered tiles. The goal is to see how many words you can make from these letters. The tiles are added to your row one at a time, so you'll always be working with a new set of letters. Once you submit a word, the letters you used are removed and new ones are added.
The KDK launched earlier this year. Currently, the KDK is limited to select developers. Although we shouldn't expect to see first-person shooters or elaborate fantasy games on the Kindle's paper-like interface, it's quite possible that we could see crossword puzzles, two-player games, puzzles, and math games in the future. If and when paid games are introduced to the Kindle, developers will receive a cut of 70%.
