DISH Turns iPad Into TV Viewer And Remote Control

The DirecTV and DISH Network battle is becoming more heated by the month. Not only are the two competing hard on price and content, but now DISH has another reason to choose their services. Well, if you own an iPad. The pay-TV provider has announced today that DISH Remote Access, the free application that gives DISH Network customers the ability to watch their live and recorded TV on compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops, is now available for the iPad.

That means that you'll be able to watch live DISH TV content on the iPad, for free. To enjoy live and recorded TV viewing on the iPad, DISH Network customers must have a broadband-connected, Sling-enabled device such as the Sling Adapter - a small placeshifting device that pairs with DISH Network's ViP 722 or 722k HD DVRs. So that's definitely another hardware purchase, but if you already own one, even better.

In addition to TV viewing, the DISH Remote Access app also gives DISH Network customers with compatible DVRs the ability to browse and search up to nine days of programming, schedule DVR recordings, manage conflicts, delete shows on multiple receivers, and transform the iPad into a fully-functioning remote control. Not bad at all, and definitely something to make you consider DISH if you haven't before.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- DISH Network L.L.C., today announced that DISH Remote Access, the free application that gives DISH Network customers the ability to watch their live and recorded TV on compatible smartphones, tablets and laptops, is now available for the iPad™. To enjoy live and recorded TV viewing on the iPad, DISH Network customers must have a broadband-connected, Sling-enabled™ device such as the Sling Adapter™ - a small placeshifting device that pairs with DISH Network's ViP® 722 or 722k HD DVRs.

"DISH Network is the only pay-TV provider to offer a true TV everywhere solution, and now we've extended that experience to the iPad," said DISH Network Chief Marketing Officer Ira Bahr.

The DISH Remote Access app for the iPad can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store. For more information about DISH Remote Access, visit www.dish.com/tveverywhere.

This really all reminds me of when VHS went out in favor of CD platform first, and of course now DVD/Blueray/ Double sided DVD now, and all the other platforms it has taken. The end thought is that VHS is absolutely gone now. Comcast is also doing the same thing as well.

The live and recorded content is great, but I have a feeling it makes a crappy remote control.

I thought there was already an App for that?

You still have to match it up to your hardware.

Hey all! I just came across this posting and thought I would just give some feedback on the new hardware from DISH Network. As a DISH employee I can definitely say this product is amazing! I have gained personal experience with the equip and its capabilities and it gives us movie and tv lovers an option to watch our favorites when not at home. Definitely makes those busy holiday travels less stressful!

Hey this is Nate with DISH Network. I have the Sling adapter connected to my DVR and I have to say I love it. I watch live TV on my iPad (that I won in a contest) and this works perfect. Like InfinityzeN1 I did not think it would work well as a remote with DVR functions but it does. I would like to invite everyone to try this out I know that you will not be disappointed.
