I wonder how many of those DL's were because of people not wanting the DRM on the retail versions. |
Id guess most of them were because it is a nice benchmark. |
It's kind of ironic since EA is one of the most ardent proponents of DRM |
I bought the full version of the game, and then added a few downloaded files to make it easier for me to use. I hate downloading games because of the crappy quality of what you can get, the crappy viruses that sometimes hitch a ride with the games you are pirating, and also,.......I think that the people who make a really fine game deserve to be paid for it.
It seems as if millions disagree with me though. ___________________________________ For you guys that do a little downloading,........ Hey! You should see this! Holy Crap! Is big brother really watching?
Well I'm in the clear! I must be doing something right LMAO |
cant get quotes working but - "the crappy viruses that sometimes hitch a ride with the games you are pirating," is really fallacious these days. i am a filthy pirate (growing up in hong kong has caused me to assume all data is free/cheap) i DL all sorts of media from all sorts of places - scene, lockers, torrents public and private and have never had a virus is 6+ years of this. the only real danger was from limewire, the man closing that down means the greatest argument against piracy was taken away! |
Maybe they only work with ~legitimate~ software? Ha-Ha! You go ahead an download all of the stuff you want to using your special logic that tells you it's OK,...(it's always been OK, so it must be OK!,.....OK?)....I hope you never have to deal with content providers and copyright holders in front of a
judge, because your fuzzy logic really isn't gonna carry the day in court. Good luck with that. I'll continue pay for what I want, and that's that. It's how I'll do it. It certainly doesn't make me any better than someone who steals from others who have to work for a living to survive. Nope, not at all. And growing up in Hong Kong has nothing to do with someone's integrity, or lack of it. It's YOU.

I totally agree realneil "I think that the people who make a really fine game deserve to be paid for it.", although I do not mind down loading titles though when I buy them, of course I have also been doing it for many years as well. I started downloading bigger packages with Windows itself and have done beta for M$ for every version since 3.11. |

I'm not surprised, but I wouldn't count DRM as the main reason. Crytek didn't provide a demo version of the game with DX11 to test out the function. I mean if Crytek released a demo of the game with DX11 support then I would be out buying the game and lining EA's pockets with cash; DX11 was one of the reasons I wanted to buy the game and if I can't get a taste of it then desperation sets in and well, you know. I agree with realneil; but I think the time has come for game demo's on the PC to make a big comeback. |
That's an understatement. I remember when ~every~ game had a DEMO, and they lived or died by how good the product was. It should still be the way they do it. |
I am still one of the poor idiots that stand in line at midnight to pick up my preordered games, and then spend the rest of the night fighting the millions trying to download all of the BS so I can play. |
Has game piracy shot upwards with DRM is the question that bears asking. If the pirated DRM-free versions are more convenient to use it would make sense that the most pirated games have the most onerous DRM. Betcha people bought Crysis 2 then downloaded an actual useable pirated version. |
Oh look. Four games I don't even care about and a fifth that makes me so motion sick that I don't even want to play it. |
Well Crysis 2 did contain something where the hud started to disappear and the colors got distorted and the motion blur got kicked up all the way up; so I don't think that anything pertaining to anti-piracy would forbid it from the running. |
