Charter Bumps Up Internet Speeds, But Uploads Still Lacking

Got Charter for internet? Good news! The speed at which you're reading this very post is probably improved. The company has announced that they're bumping up internet speeds across the board, with download rates reaching 100Mbps for home customers. In markets where Charter has deployed DOCSIS 3.0 technology, or approximately 95 percent of its Internet service area, the company is increasing Charter Internet Express download speeds from 12 megabits per second (Mbps) to up to 15 Mbps, and increasing upload speeds from 1 Mbps to up to 3 Mbps. Charter Internet Plus download speeds are being increased from 18 Mbps to up to 30 Mbps, and upload speeds are being increased from 2 Mbps to up to 4 Mbps. Charter's fastest residential offering is increasing from 60 Mbps download to up to 100 Mbps download/5 Mbps upload, and has been renamed Charter Internet Ultra100 to reflect the significant enhancement. Express and Plus speeds are also increasing in the remaining portions of Charter's service areas nationwide.

The major downside here is that even with the fastest package, you're limited to just 5Mbps up. Compared to fiber-based solutions, that's a terrible upload rate, and we're very much looking forward to the day when most cable and DSL options offer upload rates to match those blistering download rates.

Good to see this happening! Also hope that this idea spreads to other ISP companies. I myself have cable & I'm going to stay with it.

I have Charter; so I'm lucky to have this. What with all of the constant interruptions this service has had, it's still a good service in terms of speeds.

Difference is USA protects corporations so they sell you 100 mbps service and you lucky to end up with 30. The magical and wonderful day I got 64 mbps was a singular event and normally I have right around 30-40mbps.

On top of which unlimited is never ever unlimited it is unlimited till you reach your cap then your service either stops or you get billed extra.

Cable needs to step their game up because the age of fiber is upon is. In my town of lafayette, la the city has built its own fiber network and its amazing. 50 mbs per second up and down every time you do a speed test. Now im happy charter is making improvements, but fiber is hot on its trail. Now i know fiber isnt every where and cable internet is peoples only option, but if the cable companies dont give their clients a good reason reason to stay when fiber comes, they will lose.
