Cellular South And Samsung To Deliver LTE Network In Q4 2011

It seems like just yesterday that we were complaining about the original iPhone's lack of 3G. Can you believe a phone launching in 2007 with only EDGE managed to sell so well? And now, just three years later, the world's focused on 4G. Most carriers haven't even developed their 3G networks in a manner that they are pleased with, and already companies are looking to build out 4G networks in order to get ahead of the curve.


Today, a smaller, regional carrier by the name of Cellular South is joining up with Samsung Mobile in order to reveal a strategic alliance with Samsung Telecommunications to build a LTE 4G high-speed wireless broadband data network infrastructure. LTE is the same wireless technology that Verizon Wireless has chosen for their 4G deployments, while WiMAX has been chosen by Clearwire and Spring. It's definitely a battle that could get messy over the years, but right now the cards are stacking up in LTE's favor.

The alliance also calls for Samsung Mobile to supply Cellular South with two LTE Band Class 12 4G smartphone handsets as well as other new network solutions operating in the 700 MHz spectrum. The devices and the network will be ready for launch in the fourth quarter of 2011, or right around a year from now. It's kind of crazy to think that both LTE and WiMAX will both be live just a year from now, and in all likelihood, people will still be complaining about AT&T's 3G network in bigger cities like NYC and SF.
