Canon Introduces EOS Digital Rebel T2i DSLR And Four New PowerShots

PMA, which is America's largest camera show, is scheduled to start this month in California, and it's safe to say that a handful of new Canons will be there. Today, the camera outfit introduced its newest consumer-level DSLR, the Digital Rebel T2i. The DSLR has features that have been previously unavailable at these price points, including an 18MP CMOS sensor, Full HD video recording and selectable frame rates of up to 30fps.

The ISO ranges from 100 to 6400 (with a boost level to 12800) and there's also a 63-zone Dual Layer Metering System, and Canon's DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor. Canon is still maintaining their lead over Nikon in the video department with this one's ability to shoot at 1920x1080 and give consumers the option to select their preferred frame rate.

You'll also get an HDMI output, an expanded ± 5 EV exposure compensation range and a price of $799.99 without a lens. It will ship this March in a kit version as well for $100, which gets you an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens.

If you're not exactly in the market for a DSLR, Canon is also introducing four new PowerShot point and shoot cameras: PowerShot SX210 IS, PowerShot SD3500 IS, PowerShot SD1400 IS and PowerShot SD1300 IS. Details and pricing on these guys are listed below.

As far as DSLR camera's go I am pretty sure Canon rules the roost here. At least of course in the consumer market. For DSLR of the capabilities and options included at the consumer level you cannot beat them for the price.

The Rebel series has been the best intro consumer DSLR on the market for years. In fact, I need to buy a new one since the x-wife took my old one when she moved out along with all my lens, stand, and lights.

The upped the CMOS Sensor and the HD video capabilities on this camera. The T1i shot 1080p at 20FPS, vs 30FPS for the T2i. I'm liking this very much so. Also note that the $800 price tag does not include a lens. Will be waiting for the kit price to drop down to $700 before purchasing.

I 2nd that gibbersome. I will wait for the body only price to fall before thinking. I own a Nikon D40 for almost 2 years now and was hoping to upgrade to a D90. Nikon, though they offer the best of clarity and color depth in a pic, its extremely costly to upgrade and get different lenses and even the options from 3rd party are limited. Canon, on the other hand, has extremely high compatibility with 3rd party lenses (Sigma, Tokina , my choices) and they are cheap.

If at all I get to save really good money, I would love to get that mysterious D90 with 18-135mm Kit lens for $1100+. Pray for my D90 guys.
