Now that
Windows
7 is officially here, Best Buy wants to help you make the transition to the
new operating system. In addition to selling the new platform and many Windows
7-equipped PCs in store, the company's Geek Squad is offering Windows 7 upgrade
services for just $39.99, excluding the price of the software. Normally, Geek
Squad's operating system install service charge is $129.99.

Of course,
Best Buy is also selling a
variety of PCs that come preloaded with Windows 7. A new exclusive bundle from
HP is dubbed “PC Home Makeover.”
For $1,199.99, you'll get an HP desktop, monitor, laptop, netbook, wireless
router, and Geek Squad setup and networking. This offer will be available until
mid-January.
“Customers tell us they want the flexibility of multiple
machines and networking, and together with HP we’ve created a robust solution
at a very attractive price,” said Jason Bonfig, vice president of computers at
Best Buy. “Only Best Buy can give you all of the computer products you want
plus a Geek Squad house call to make
sure your new gear is setup and connected and helping you share content like
movies, music and pictures.”
For users who purchased a PC from Best Buy between June 26,
2009 and October 21, 2009, there's a good chance you'll qualify for a free
upgrade on Windows 7 software. To see if you do, bring your PC and sales
receipt to the nearest
Geek
Squad location. Assuming you qualify, you'll get a free Windows 7 upgrade
installed on your computer.
