Apple "iPad" Leaked Via 30-Second Video Advertisement? Or Not...

Apple has a media event scheduled for this coming Wednesday. That much we know. Otherwise, it's all up to rumors, whispers and wild speculation. We have a pretty good idea that AT&T may lose its iPhone exclusivity, and many analysts are suggesting that a tablet/slate of some sort will make its official debut as well.

Apple's upcoming iPad tablet?  Aspect ratio be damned...

Now, there's a little more believability in that second assumption but a whole lot of intentional mystery behind it as well. A supposed "iPad" advertisement has just leaked out, and while no one will confirm whether it's real or fake, it definitely has the typical "Apple vibe" to it. Based on this video, the iPad looks like an enlarged iPod touch, with a giant touch panel, virtual keyboard and OS X. There's also a variety of ports around the back, which could lead to this being used as a semi-dockable notebook. Wednesday will be here soon enough, but have a peek at the ad below for what could be an early preview - or not.

Looks a bit bogus to me. Not saying the product isn't legit, but something doesn't seem quite right with the video...

Well we know now it's coming tomorrow. I seriously doubt it will look anything like this thing in the ad. We also already know we can get McGraw Hill books on it as well.

Here is a live twitter feed on the conference http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/26/apple-tablet-twitter-upda_n_437265.html, and it is also live on CNBC (it is on commercial now).

Here is a large list of features with pictures and a listing of some people who are in on this developement wise. It seems as if a lot of people have known about this for quite some time now.

It looks like either Apple themselves or Motorola is back in the CPU business as this run's on an Apple A4 chip at 1GHZ from what they say. I can think of several chips that run at this speed rating though, Snapdragon, VIA, and Tesla I wonder which it actually is. Either way this is to a great degree what I was talking about as a do everything e-reader/netbook touchscreen type device. They also have not said anything about cellular carriers or hardware (signal type), but it is in there without specifics. The iPad will run all iPhone apps, and has a pretty large conglomerate of development and media companies on board. It also has a responsive rotatable screen display with a multitouch screen.

I wish I could find a live video or at least a RT one for this. I am sure one will be out before very long though. It looks like the prices are 600, 700, and 800 depending on your memory which is 16/32/or 64. The active use time is 10 straight hours of active content and about a month standby from what they say. It also runs HD but I have not found an exact max resolution on it yet. At that price line which of course is a little high (this is Apple though so expected), it is not however as high as many have expected.

Here's Apple's page on the iPad, it has the video there as well. http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video

I don't think I've ever seen so much self congratulatory backpatting...

Anyway, a lot of the early rumors turned out false. No OLED, no cameras, a wide, squarish design. The Tablet PC does A LOT more than iPad like better apps,  multitasking. It can stream content Hulu, Netflix without being trapped by Apple's restrictions.

Yeah gibber at first I was falling for the Hype myself. Then I started getting further in and saw the limitations, and started thinking about what software it could use. Say noting but app's right now. There are a lot of app's but there format is not accepted at my school which was what I was thinking about ( I would have to have office and PDF, and Flash period). Maybe it will stir the market though that will be good.

Haha, well the good thing is that I won't be spending money on this device, at least not until they add the following features:

1. Camera

2. Flash support

3. Multi-tasking support

4. Verizon enabled 3G option

5. Much faster processor and bigger memory

6. OLED screen (though this isn't a deal breaker)

It may be a cool thing if it really is what this says it is. But if it's Apple Branded, It's gonna be incredibly expensive to get and therefore not worth it.

Fake. Everyone knows the iPad name has been reserved for Apple's first entry into feminine hygiene products.

0
+ -

OMG, that was too damn funny, 3vi1!

0
+ -

LOL 3vi1!

The video looks fake, but a good fake. It looks like a clunky thinner version of the IMac.

0
+ -

Well then...it really is called an iPad...

0

rofl 3vi1 I don't think this is anything real at least from this *fake* Ad. We will know in 2 days though.

0

Yeah, I agree. This "ad" is almost definitely BS. The ports on the back are an obvious texture map, the aspect ratio won't be 4:3, and there are many images available on-line of the OSX on-screen keyboard. If I was a betting man, I'd guess the Apple tablet is not much more than a big iPhone, with more storage, a faster processor, and more capable OS.

0
+ -

But, you're not a betting man.... doh!

0

@Marco, yeah, I noticed the ports on the back at 0:05 second mark look very flat.

BTW, did you guys not gamble at all in Las Vegas?

0
+ -

I totally agree with Marco on this one this video is BS. Apple may very well blow us away at there conference, of course they may not as well (you can never tell with these "Jobs cultists", lol jk). I am excited to see what they do put out there though. The one thing that points to positives in this is that this is definitely an exclusive conference, many times in previous ones like this they have whipped out slick new items, and I don't see any mass legal denial. Basically we have heard no comment a lot, and then people get in a frenzy and convince themselves that what they think is happening is real. This happens often on the internet like so and star is dead, so and so singer or football player is in jail. Sometimes it's true sometimes (many times) it is the internet BS hype engine to.

We assumed it to be BS rapid1 but hey, it's fun to live imagine once in a while... or maybe that was not very imaginative? hehehe

Gibbs, almost no gambling in Vegas. Too damn busy working! :P

It's pretty easy to match the Apple Style when it comes to commercials. I remember one (forget the comedy troupe's name though... sorry!) that parodied those "I'm a Mac/I'm a PC" commercials:

Mac1: "Im a Mac."

PC: "And I'm a PC."

A third man in the shot then said "And I'm also a Mac."

PC: "A black Mac! That's a first."

Mac1: "So what's the difference between us?"

Mac2: "We're pretty much the same, except I have a larger hard drive."

Mac1, PC: "Oh." <look down at their crotches>

They did the environment and music right, had the same closing graphics, etc.

Lol, thanks for sharing Clem! That's a good one.

They've got some funny Mac vs PC parodies on this site:

Hey gibbersome thos PC/Mac videos are not from the official ad campaign. Are they privately made or early internet only ones or what?
