Apple Reportedly Halts Mac Component Orders, But Why?

Apple is said to have stopped placing component orders for its Mac series of products, leaving upstream suppliers in limbo as to when the Cupertino company will decide to let them resume operations. If true, it raises a number of questions, the biggest one having to do with why the sudden shift in orders.
According to news and rumor site Digitimes and its un-named sources, Apple reduced its Mac orders to virtually nothing after the Lunar New Year holidays. It's been speculated that Apple overestimated the demand for Mac systems and was a little too aggressive in placing orders towards the end of 2012, leaving the company with a stockpile of inventory.
It's a plausible explanation that falls in line with a recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC) indicating that PC shipments in the first quarter of 2013 declined by the largest year-on-year margin since the firm began tracking the PC market quarterly in 1994.
