According to new numbers from Nielsen’s third quarter survey, Android
’s market share in the U.S. inched up to 43% from 39% back in June. During that same time frame, Apple
treaded water, maintaining 28% of the market.
saw its share continue to drop, from 20% in June down to 18%. Windows Mobile/ Windows Phone 7, which Nielsen lumps into one category, dropped from 9% to 7%. (We’ve been giving Windows a mulligan for a little while now because the shift to Windows Phone 7 is taking time. Still, losing ground is not a good sign.) The remaining 4% belongs to “other”.
The numbers are culled from those 43% of mobile subscribers who own a smartphone; 57% have feature phones.
