Amazon Inks Deal with NBCUniversal to Deliver More of Your Favorite Shows Via Amazon Prime Instant Video

Today, there’s one more small reason to ditch satellite or cable; Amazon has agreed to a distribution deal with NBCUniversal Cable and New Media Distribution that will bring a host of popular shows to Amazon Prime Instant Video. Now, Amazon Prime subscribers can stream hundreds more programs, including Battlestar Galactica, Friday Night Lights, Parks and Recreation, and more.

According to Amazon, this deal brings the total number of available films and television episodes available to Prime members to over 22,000; this is in addition to the approximately 120,000 titles available to non-Prime Instant Video customers.


You can stream content from Amazon to any number of devices, including (deep breath now) the iPad, Kindle Fire, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Roku players, TiVo, and a slew of TVs and set-top boxes from LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio.

Online content providers have a ways to go before their value completely supplants traditional pay TV models--live sporting events is often the poison keeping consumers hooked cable, for example--but today’s announcements is a small step in the right direction.
