Acer Looks Out For Budget Consumers With Veriton Z280G All-In-One PC

We have to confess--Acer's latest all-in-one PC certainly looks a lot like another of its machines announced back in April. But we suppose there are enough differences here to warrant a slightly new model name and a marketing approach aimed at business users. The company's Veriton Z280G is its second Veriton in the past week, though this one actually includes an LCD with the innards that make a PC tick.

The AIO machine boasts an 18.5" widescreen display, an Intel Atom ultra-low-voltage CPU, a fanless design, Energy Star compliance, a 1366x768 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a multi-format card reader, 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a Super-Multi DVD writer, integrated speakers, a matching keyboard/mouse and Windows XP.

Aside from the OS, Acer also ships this machine with Adobe Reader, CyberLink DVD and the company's own eRecovery Management software suite that can restore HDD images in case disaster strikes. Best of all, it checks in with a retail price that many will be able to afford. It should be available right about now in North America starting at just $499, but we have to wonder if it's not worth waiting for Windows 7 to launch.
